North American champion rower (trying to get in touch with coaches)

does anyone know out there if its too late to get recruited for rowing? if i can imma waltz right in but it might be too late.

can anyone give me some insight here if im just wasting my time or if ive got a decent shot?

I think you have a decent shot. But the GPA/Rank might hurt you. Based on their statistics. They usually admit students in the top ten percent, but they still admit other students who are below ten percent. Your ECs are solid and centralized. I read in another thread that the greatest chance for a recruit to get admitted is if he/she were to apply ED. But, if you can get in contact with the rowing coaches that would be great because they can give a good word for you. Your scores were better than mine and I only made it to Life Scout. I still got in ED, so you have as good of a shot as the rest of them. So, hang in there and don't let your desire to go to Penn wither.

alright admitmetokollege. My GPA was 4.5 Weighted and 3.8 UnWeighted. I was ranked 13/417 which is the top 3 percent. I have all As on my transcript except for the 11 Bs (I was scared about this) I've received throughout high school. I only took two years of Spanish (took in grades 8 and 9). I will have taken 9 AP courses by the time I graduate. My AP scores so far are: 4 Art Hist., 4 World Hist., 5 Psychology, 3 US Hist, 2 English Lang., 2 Calc BC.

SAT (highests in each category, because thats how Penn looks at it): Math 740, Reading 640, Writing 700, Essay 11. ACT 29. SAT II: US Hist. 710, Math IIC 720, Physics 650.

I put these stats up because the admitmetokollege wanted them (for those who are wondering). To admitmetokollege: Dont' worry, relax. You have great stats and you're in contention for a spot at Penn. I kept doubting my stats and worrying before I was admitted to Wharton. I regret all the doubting and worrying. Take it easy. Apps are in and now it's a big waiting game.

i cant figure out how this works so im putting this in here.

CAN ANYBODY TELL ME THE TIMELINE FOR RECRUITING?????

i originally didnt want to row in college but changed my mind really late and i wanna see if i cant get a nod from a coach. the deadline has passed but is it still not to late to get the support of the coaches or am i out of luck? iam 185 pounds and i pulled a 6 42 the other day and it should be in the 30's by feb.

well for swimming, the coach told me he cant help anyone in the RD round. but for crew...it may be different...look at the penn athletics site...try to find an email address or something to get in contact with the coach. i heard theyve recruited about 6 rowers in ED from one of my friends. i could be wrong about the number though. but i dont think it was much more or less than that.

I would also like to add that though some of the people here got in with test scores that were relatively sub-par... I can't say I've seen anyone with what I would regard as ****ty test scores.

what do you mean by "North American champion rower"? what have you won, and at what tournaments? im not quite sure if it is too late for you to be recruted... my friend was a rowing recruit that applied early. other colleges she was interested in were willing into wait until after she was accepted/rejected before they started the whole recruiting thing (which basically meant they wouldnt start pulling for her until after winter break). on the other hand, she was in contact with them for a while... i would ask your coach or your college counselor.

north american champion means royal canadian henley. technically its not the north american championships but since we beat crews from canada mexico and america i call it such. its the second or third biggest sprint style regatta in the world i think it comes after the real henley and stotes.

your erg score might help a little but nothiung huge. I have a 6:39 2k and got a little interest from dartmouth, but i am a light weight. Like I said he was mildly interested in me. Glean from this what you may.
