Girlfriend's Asleep. It's late. CHANCE ME!?(:

Well, it's not the current me you'll be chancing, it's how I think I'll end my high school years, but whatever, chance this person please?(: pretty pretty please...?(: with a cherry and a chance back on top, just post a link(:

+Intended Major- Double major in Political Science and Business (planning on going to law school).
+Race: White.
+Gender: Male
+Location: Georgia.
+School type: Unranked mid-size public.
+Parents education: One or more parent recieved a college degree.
+Household Income: $35,000 to 40,000. Father supports MANY children. Financial aid doesn't matter, grandfather's wealthy, he'll be paying for my education.
+GPA: ~3.94~ by graduation. Can explain one terrible semester due to a TERRIBLY embarassing medical issue for which I was briefly hospitalized, and because of a teacher who was later asked to resign.
+SAT: 2070 (CR-710 M-620 W-740)
+APs:
-10th: AP Euro, AP US Gov.
-11th: AP Lang, AP USH.
-12th: AP Lit, AP Psych, AP Bio, AP Macro.
+ECs/Awards/Leadership/SummerActivities:
-Eagle Scout.
-Senior Patrol Leader (highest youth-held position in a Boy Scout troop) of my troop.
-Order of the Arrow (scouting's national honor society).
-Founder and captain of school's Mock Trial team.
-Member of NHS.
-Duke TIP scholar.
-3 week Summer@Brown pre-college course on the foundation of law, summer before junior year.
-Congressional PAGE Program, summer before senior year.
-3rd place at regionals for NHD, invited to state, partner was out of town. (8th grade, does that belong on a college application? It's still an award...)
+Essays: Should be superb, Honors American Lit teacher praised me as the best nonficton writer she ever taught. I don't have any inspiration yet, but I have the ability to write well. I think one will focus on golf (was training to be a tournament golfer, broke my wrist, gave it up except as a hobby) and how it relates to life, as in "if you want to achieve, it's all up to you". One should tie in how the root word of college means to gather and I see college as an opportunity to gather knowledge and create myself.
+Teacher Recommendations: One will be excellent, as in "best student I've ever taught", I could read this teacher's thoughts, we're like the same person. One should be generic but praising.
+Counselor Recommendation: Will most likely be awful, at my school you don't get close to your counselor, but I've had conflict with mine. I'm currently thinking about getting her fired for forcing me to take an elective not required for graduation. She refuses to sign my diploma otherwise. This bothers me, immensely...

I think that's all... Now, for the schools(: I'll order them by largest reach to easiest safety.
*Brown University
*University of Pennsylvania
*Vanderbilt University
*UCLA
*Emory University (Grandpa went to Emory Law, so legacy? He's still a member of their athletic facilities, attends some events for alumni, and donates to the school, in smallish sums)
*Brandeis University
*Tulane University
*American University
*Northeastern University
*Shimer College
*University of Georgia (Aunt went to UGA Law, so legacy?)
*Hofstra University
*Georgia State University (Grandma's a current student, her daughter, my aunt, and her son, my uncle, also attended, so legacy?)

If you include a link then I'll gladly chance you back(: Any advice (I'm not sure on what constitutes legacy status lol, and whether I can include that 8th grade award. And I'm not sure where to apply ED at, I'm thinking either Brown, Tulane, or Emory, even though Brown's a pipe dream. Still not sure, so sorry.) or school recommendations are also welcome(: thanks guys and gals of CC!(:

I think UCLA is possible, you have somewhere around 80% chance as far as i’m concerned. For the rest, like Brown, depends what you major in?? Try out University of Chicago, nobody thinks about it

You need SAT IIs for Penn and Brown unless you take ACT with writing.

They are currently out of reach.

You should apply for matches through questbridge.

*Brown University: Reach.
*University of Pennsylvania: Reach
*Vanderbilt University: Low reach.
*UCLA: High match
*Emory University: your legacy probably won’t help since he didn’t go there for undergrad. I’d say high match
*Brandeis University: Match
*Tulane University: High Match
*American University: Match/in
*Northeastern University: Don’t know
*Shimer College: ?
*University of Georgia: No legacy here. Match/In
*Hofstra University: Match
*Georgia State University: In

Good luck and if you increase your sat score you’ll have much better chances with the ivies. Aim for 2250+

Your ECs are focused and I’m sure that first teacher recommendation will be extremely helpful. You should retake the SAT or take the ACT to raise your score. I know you said whatever happened was highly embarrassing, but you can possibly explain your GPA in an essay.

Sorry I can’t give you individual feedback on each college 'cause I only know a few of them.

Brown/Penn are gonna be tough, try an ED to one of them if you want but I’m guessing deferal. If you Vandy, they have two rounds of ED so you could do a UPenn then if rejected/defered go to Vandy, which you have a good chance at if you apply ED (they really like ED applicants per my GC). UCLA is always tough but I think it’s up in the high match/low reach. Others you should get into, but you never know.

Thanks for chancing me!! I’ll try my best to chance.

*Brown University: High Match/Low Reach
*University of Pennsylvania: High Reach
*Vanderbilt University: High Match
*UCLA: Match
*Emory University (Grandpa went to Emory Law, so legacy? He’s still a member of their athletic facilities, attends some events for alumni, and donates to the school, in smallish sums): Match
*Brandeis University: Low Match
*Tulane University: In
*American University: don’t know :frowning:
*Northeastern University: In
*Shimer College: don’t know :frowning:
*University of Georgia (Aunt went to UGA Law, so legacy?): In
*Hofstra University: don’t know
*Georgia State University: Low Match

If you bump that SAT score to +2100 all chances would definitely be better!!

*Brown University - reach
*University of Pennsylvania - reach
*Vanderbilt University - low reach
*UCLA - low reach
*Emory University - chances are influenced by whether or not legacy applies. Assuming it doesn’t, lowish reach
*Brandeis University - high match
*Tulane University - high match
*American University - match
*Northeastern University - match
*Shimer College - haven’t a clue
*University of Georgia - in
*Hofstra University - in
*Georgia State University - in

Our lists match perfectly! If you can bring up that 620 in math I think it would help turn those low reaches into matches and high matches. What were your AP scores?

Oh, and leave out that eighth grade thing. Not being rude, just frank: colleges don’t care about third place in a regional anything from before high school, it would probably just look desperate. Your ECs look good, mentioning it would really only dilute the quality of them.

thanks for chancing me! (:
I like your extra-curriculars a lot, they show your commitment. Your GPA is also very good, if you can maintain it that high. It’s also great that you’re taking APs, but make sure you pass the tests because, if you don’t, colleges assume your grades are inflated.
I definitely think you should retake your SAT, and DONT get a counselor recommendation. sometimes colleges allow you to get it from someone else if you really don’t know your counselor too well.
if you write good essays and keep your grades up, I think the Ivy’s would be a reach but very possible. especially if you apply ED or something.
I’m not very familiar with the other schools, but your legacy status at Emory is a BIG help. good luck, hope everything turns out great!

I really don’t know how much boy scouts helps but assuming it does…u have chance at all of these schools with the last few being fall back options…

*Brown University - crapshoot
*University of Pennsylvania - crapshoot
*Vanderbilt University - slight reach
*UCLA - probably in
*Emory University - in
*Brandeis University - in
*Tulane University - safety
*American University - safety
*Northeastern University - safety
*Shimer College - safety
*University of Georgia - safety
*Hofstra University - safety
*Georgia State University - safety

Out of curiousity, what was your embarrassing medical issue?

u know what

apply ED to Upenn, my friend got in with 3.76 UW and she applied for arts and science, but shes going to swtich to wharton

Upenn is reallllyy realllly open about switching schools, so just do it and honestly ur gpa is really good

*UCLA - prolly in
*Brandeis University - prolly in
*Tulane University - in?
*American University - in
*Northeastern University - in
*Shimer College - should be k
*University of Georgia - should be k
*Hofstra University - not sure
*Georgia State University - should be k

Your legacy at Emory only counts for ED!! So I’d recommend applying EA for UGA, just so you know you’ll have a pretty good fallback if you get your acceptance early, and ED for UPenn for Brown, if you get rejected from those you can then apply for Emory ED 2.

*Brown University- nope
*University of Pennsylvania - nope
*Vanderbilt University - reach
*UCLA - match
*Emory University (Grandpa went to Emory Law, so legacy? He’s still a member of their athletic facilities, attends some events for alumni, and donates to the school, in smallish sums) - match
*Brandeis University- match
*Tulane University- match

*Shimer College-match
*University of Georgia (Aunt went to UGA Law, so legacy?)-in
*Hofstra University-in
*Georgia State University (Grandma’s a current student, her daughter, my aunt, and her son, my uncle, also attended, so legacy?)- in

*Brown University - reach
*University of Pennsylvania - high reach
*Vanderbilt University - low reach
*UCLA - high match/low reach

*Brandeis University- match/high match

*Shimer College - match? not sure
*University of Georgia - safety

*Georgia State University - safety

Very focused and important-sounding ECs  Definitely bring up your SAT score or take the ACT. Good SAT IIs, maybe take Math II if you want to counter your SAT math or just for a better application. I’d suggest that you apply ED to Brown or UPenn if you really want one of those. Maybe you could look at Cornell, Northwestern, Tufts, Boston College, Penn State University Park, University of Michigan Ann Harbor, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and University of Rochester.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1175148-chance-me.html

Don’t rule out Shimer College. I was a National Merit Scholar, super SAT’s, lots of high school activities, etc. Basically could have gone almost anywhere. On a whim, I went to Shimer. Toughest and best college I ever attended. After Shimer, graduate school at Berkeley was absurdly easy. My Shimer GPA was 2.8, Berkeley 4.0. And if you want an advanced degree, remember that about 25% of Shimer graduates go on to receive doctoral degrees–the highest percentage in the country except for two technical schools (Harvey Mudd and Cal Poly). It is really small, though–150 students–but it’s hard not to learn when your classes all have 6-12 students in them. I’m still good friends with many of the faculty there, as well as many of my classmates.

Try raising your SAT if you can, but if you write superb essays I’d say these are your chances.
*Brown University- High reach
*University of Pennsylvania- High reach
*Vanderbilt University- Mid reach
*Emory University- Mid reach
*UCLA- High match/low reach
*Brandeis University-High match/low reach
*Tulane University- Match
*American University- Match
*Northeastern University- Low match
*Shimer College- Low match
*University of Georgia- Low match/safety
*Hofstra University- Safety
*Georgia State University- Safety
You may want to look into Shimer’s BA/JD program with IIT’s Kent School of Law, or Tulane’s MBA/JD program. You might also be interested in Hofstra’s honors college. By the way, if you’re applying to Penn through Wharton then it’s likely to be much harder…

Improved list:

-University of Pennsylvania
-Brown University
-Emory University (ED)
-Brandeis University (EA)
-American University
-Tulane University (EA)
-Northeastern University (EA)
-Shimer College
-University of Georgia (EA)
-Hofstra University (EA 2, if needed)
-Georgia State University

By the way, dansbooks, can you tell me more about Shimer please? I know the admissions requirements and statistics are kinda weird, so can you clue me in on that sort of thing, along with why one would want to go there? I only know a little bit about the school, but it does appeal to me quite highly.

Bump bump bump! Please?(:
