Girls Boarding

Hi everyone!
I currently attend Linden Hall in PA, but I believe it would be best for me to switch schools for my sophomore year(I would repeat sophomore year). Which all girls schools do you recommend?
Thanks!

We were impressed with Emma Willard (Troy NY) and Westover (Ct) when we were applying to schools.

The two visited we liked, Emma Willard and Miss Porter’s.

Emma Willard.

Emma Willard’s food >>>

Dana Hall, Miss Porters, Miss Hall’s, Emma Willard…

Is the Madeira school any good?

Westover and Emma Willard

The deadline for applications is Feb 1. Should I have all my applications in by January or December(does it matter if I submit it late January)? Thanks everyone!

Just as long as they are in by the deadline!!

I have heard great things about Madeira School from people who attended. I would have also suggested the other schools listed above.

Dana Hall. Please at least look at it. It does have a lower percentage of boarders than many other schools, but it truly is a school where they know how girls learn.

Dana Hall seems like a good school but I do not know if I could get in. It seems really selective like Emma Willard and its not from 9-12.

Will it help that I was accepted to Madeira previously? Also, which of the schools(only 2) do you recommend-emma willard, dana hall, chatham hall? My current grades at Linden Hall are A’s and B’s(Honors and 1 AP) and I expect to get in the 80-84 percentile for the ssat(maybe higher if I have enough time to study)

One thing I forgot to mention upfront is to consider why you are leaving and what you think you might get out of another school that you aren’t getting out of LH. You don’t have to publicize the reasons here, but just be sure that leaving is going to be a step in the right direction. There must have been a reason you picked LH over Madeira last year…

With regards to Madeira, I could see it going either way A) They take the fact that you turned them down previously as an indicator that you would do so again; B) If you position it as “I chose wrong last year and want to get back on track…” perhaps they would be more inclined to accept you because you would be more inclined to yield/matric.

Startgirl3 if you liked Emma’s food…you must eat at Westover. It was like fine dining…best food I tasted thoughtout the entire process.

I think try Dana!
I am not clear on what you mean by not being 9-12? If you mean grades, the middle school (6-8) is for day students only. You can only board in grades 9-12.

I am really drawn to Madeira’s co-curricular program. The only reason i came here was because they gave me a scholarship(5,000)

The Middle School classes are small at Dana- the class sizes double by High School. Also, consider Chatham Hall if you are looking for schools outside of the Northeast.

Well I created my final list.

  1. Madeira
  2. Chatham Hall
  3. Westover
  4. Miss Hall
Most schools only accept about 5-15 students which is very few. I kinda gave up on Emma Willard cause they only take 4 or 5
