girls & makeup

Girls: Do you wear make-up?
...everyday or frequently? or only for dates or going out?
...if you do wear it frequently, do you feel self-conscious or insecure when you're not wearing it?
...Do you get more compliments and more attention when you are?
How much makeup do you wear? Eyeliner and eyeshadow only? Something like this or more like this? (More natural looking as opposed to... full-face)
...Do you feel more self-confident about yourself?
...add any other comments.

*I personally like this balance here.

Guys: Add any comments and things you've noticed about women and their dressing to impress and also their painting their faces. Make notes on what girls tend to strike your fancy (by facial appearance and paint rather than physique).

Answering my own questions:
Yes, I do. Eyeliner everyday usually... not too much like Cleopatra type thing. Sometimes I add in brownish eye-shadow and some bronzer to balance things out. I'm not a particular fan of lipstick (a la red lips + Gwen Stefani). Sometimes I'll put on a clear or neutral colored gloss but that's it. I don't use blush or eyeshadows in colors other than brown or tan or bronze unless. Yes, I do feel more self-confident and I'm able to take more risks socially (like when I asked someone out earlier this week). And yes I do get more attention ... or maybe it's just my putting myself out there.

Also what brands? I like MAC. I haven't tried Escentuals. I have had bad experience with drug-store eyeliner and eyeshadow... they usually smear too much or are too chalky and break easily and having a lotion coating or base over the eyes is not too compatible or alleviates cheap eyeshadow. Lipgloss is fine. So far, bronzers are fine... I don't wear foundation nor do I use powder or blush. I think blush is OK if done moderately (purchased @ Rite-Aid or w/e). Clinique is good for oily skin or lotions and stuff.

I wear eyeliner and mascara everyday because I have blonde eyelashes with dyed brown hair, so you can't see my eyelashes at all. I look dead if I don't have mascara on. I also have some powder just for the hell of it. I wear clear/pink lip gloss.

I feel more self confident if I'm going out and I have on make up. If I'm around the house, I couldn't care less what I look like.

Brands? Umm, whatever I can find that is cheapish.

Girls: Do you wear make-up?
Yes

...everyday or frequently? or only for dates or going out?
Everyday

...if you do wear it frequently, do you feel self-conscious or insecure when you're not wearing it?
Yes

...Do you get more compliments and more attention when you are?
Yes.. because I have pretty bad skin,. and no i dont make it look worse by putting on makeup because i've had 4 years of experience and I know what looks good and waht doenst.

How much makeup do you wear?
I wear less than the first one - tiny bit of foundation, concealer, mascara, clear lipgloss.

...Do you feel more self-confident about yourself?
This is like the 3rd question lol. Yes

...add any other comments.
I opt for a bit expensive makeup because i find them generally better quality than the cheaper brands.. (mascaras, foundation, primers.. NOT lipgloss). And uhh makeup is one of the very few things i spend a lot of money on..

(Also what brands?)
I have like, the most sensitive skin ever (w/ pimples here and there) and so like, MAC foundation.. like.. destroyed my skin!
I've used stuff like Estee lauder, Lancome, Dior, Chanel, MAC, etc.. Currently I'm using Chanel foundation, some random branded korean concealer (matches my skin tone), Bourjois(?) No to clumps, Yes to Volume! mascara (really good for asian lashes lol), Shu uemera eyelash curler (..perfect shape for asian eyes) and random lip gloss.
I dont wear blush or eyeshadow during normal days. I only wear enough make up to define my eyes and cover my blemishes.

A lot of guys have the idea that girls with no make up look the best and they criticise a lot of girls for thinking/spending much on makeup.. Uhh attention flash guys.. like, dont be so naive.. that's called NATURAL makeup.

I am a guy. Make-up only gets you so far. If you are beautiful, make-up will probably make you look even better. But make-up can make an average girl turn into a model. but the problem is, when you are caught without it, that image sticks to our heads, even when you have it on. :( sad, but true. btw, that pic of the girl with make-up is what I consider "a lot of make-up". im not saying thats too much, she looks awesome. but it is evident there is a good amount of make-up on her... a tad more would be considered excessive.

btw, both asian girls look much better than britney. haha maybe it is the make-up, or just a bad picture of britney.

Yes, I do, unfortunately, not every day.

I wear thick black eyeliner with thick black mascara 'cause my eyelashes are not as long as I'd want them. I LOVE DEEP RED or WINE lipstick.

Because my skin is very fair and I have dark brown hair, I look so sexy. :) lol

I love L'Oreal & Maybelline.

To hinmanCEO...

Yeah, I had the same impression. :( Like when a girl wears make up everyday, and then one day she doesn't, she looks so odd. I wish I could wear my everyday! It's just I don't have as much time....

sigh hinmanCEO, I think you've said it all...

Girls: Do you wear make-up?
Yes

...everyday or frequently? or only for dates or going out?
frequently... not when I know I'll be at home all day or going to places where I dont know anyone

...if you do wear it frequently, do you feel self-conscious or insecure when you're not wearing it?
eh sometimes, but not really.

...Do you get more compliments and more attention when you are?
yes, my makeup brings out my eyes i guess

How much makeup do you wear?
I wear bareminerals foundation because, even though i dont have acne or anything, it prevents my face from ever getting any and it makes my complexion look more even. and i wear eyeliner.. sometimes mascara and eyeshadow if i have the time. oh, and chapstick! :)

...Do you feel more self-confident about yourself?
yes

...add any other comments.
Makeup is fun to put on (but not excessively)

(Also what brands?)
bareminerals, MAC, L'oreal waterproof eyeliner (best eyeliner ever), E.L.F, and the occasional Nars and random things from sephora

A lot of guys have the idea that girls with no make up look the best and they criticise a lot of girls for thinking/spending much on makeup..
pshhh, most girls look like **** without makeup... and they probably are wearing makeup anyways

I never wear make-up. Well, I have on stage for theater productions, and back in ballet productions, but, ugh, I do not like make up. I like my white skin and blue eyes as they are.

I never wear make up on a regular basis (nothing at all, no eyeliner or mascara). Except for those special occasions or dance performances I do.

I wear makeup. If I had school right now I would be wearing it everyday. I have hardly worn makeup this entire summer, even when I go out. I don't know why, I just don't care.

I only wear eye shadow, eye liner, and mascara. It only takes me about 3 minutes to do. People like my eyes, so I play them up a bit. I do get more compliments on my eyes when I wear makeup because they stand out more.

I don't really feel more self-confident. I feel the same. Although when I sometimes went to school without makeup I would feel weird, not uglier than usual, just weird because its something I'm used to doing in the morning. If I didn't wear it people would say I looked different but didn't know why until I told them. :P Also I look younger than I am, but I look even younger than usual without my eyes done.

I use Arbonne. Its a bit pricey, but it lasts and its the best vegan makeup I've ever worn. I had to go to a wedding from 12pm - 12am (in bridal party) and my makeup at 12am looked just like it did at 12pm.

Do you wear make-up?
Sometimes.
...everyday or frequently? or only for dates or going out?
Dates and going out.
...if you do wear it frequently, do you feel self-conscious or insecure when you're not wearing it?
I don't feel self-conscious or insecure without it.
...Do you get more compliments and more attention when you are?
Not necessarily.
How much makeup do you wear? Eyeliner and eyeshadow only? Something like this or more like this? (More natural looking as opposed to... full-face)
It depends, but mostly eyeliner, mascara, and lip gloss. Sometimes eyeshadow.
...Do you feel more self-confident about yourself?
Not necessarily more "self-confident" but usually since I wear it before going out, I feel more "special" haha.
...add any other comments.
Too much make up is ew.

everyday I just wear some tinted moisturizer, gloss, eyeliner on the top, and curl my lashes.
going out I might put on some blush, mascara, and maybe lip stain (stays on long)

oh emmeline, ilu.

yes. yes i do.

it goes in spurts. i'll be religious about it for a few weeks and then i'll get busy and completely forget that i own more makeup than sephora and i won't touch it for a while.
-no. not self conscious. i don't necessarily get this. although i don't have skin issues and i realize that some girls can't live without their foundation.
-eh. depends on where i am. depends on who's around and if they pay any attention whatsoever.
-depends. have i self tanned recently? then blush, liner, mascara, shadow, highlighter, and lipgloss. if not? add bronzer. some of these things go by the wayside, but if im wearing anything at all it will definitely be gloss, blush, and probably liner.
-eh. depends. my self confidence is definitely not too terribly swayed by my makeup skills alone.

im fairly adventurous with brands but i generally shun DS products. i have a lot of mac, a lot of nars, some becca, and a ton of smashbox. the only DS product ill freely recommend is any mascara by loreal. it's the same as lancome and ~$20 cheaper.

I wear:
quite a bit of black mascara
cover up/powder
blush

I rarely rarely rarely use:
eyeliner
eyeshadow
lipgloss

I wear almost every time I leave my house. I guess I feel relatively self-conscious if I don't have on. Don't know about the compliments.

I'll answer the new questions because I don't feel like answering the makeup questions again. I did on another thread. All I'll say on the make up topic is this: I feel sooo uncomfortable around cute guys if I'm not wearing makeup. I look awful w/o it. I'm fine with my best girl friends but I hate hate hate when guys see me w/o makeup. lol

Other Questions:

How much do you spend on makeup? I have no idea. BareMinerals lasts a while, so I only buy it when I need it. I don't buy stuff every week... I don't remember when my makeup purchases are about 2 months apart. lol

Do you have an expensive handbag too? I have 2. One is Dooney and Bourke. It wasn't expensive. I got it at the Factory Store in Puerto Rico. Greatest store EVER! I spent like 2 hours there trying to figure out which one I wanted. It was like 70% off the original price. Who cares if its a season or two behind. My aunt gave me a Coach purse for graduation. Its pretty sweet.

How many handbags do you have? About 10. I don't use them all. I buy them, usually fairly cheap, then when I get a new one and pretty much never use the old one ever again. I keep them in a tote bag in my closet. Sometimes I switch because I need a larger/smaller bag.

Are you swayed by consumer culture? ...is this just a woman thing? Probably. lol... I like fashion, so I'd say that yes I am. haha

Do you get your eyebrows waxed? Ew... no... I don't trust them. My stylist says I don't need it, and she's the eyebrow technician at the salon. Apparently I have fantastic eyebrows. lol

Do you get tanned? (either lying outside in bikini or being baked in a tanning oven). I tan in my backyard in the summer. I don't like being pale. I went to a tanning salon three times a week for the two weeks before prom because I was realllly pale (freezing Chicago winter). Sometimes I sunless tan when I need a quick tan fix, but I just buy the lotion from Ulta and apply it myself. I found one that doesn't look fake.

Manicures and pedicures? Occasionally. Usually for an event. I like my hands and feet to look nice. Sometimes I'll just do my toes myself.

Hair salons? ($100 hair coloring versus $7 box of Loreal @ Rite-Aid?) I don't dye my hair. Its about $50 for a haircut.

How much do you spend on beauty products? Who knows....

Having to buy bras for 40 bucks a pop at VS doesn't help either. Yeah... gift certificates to that place are great. I think half my bras come from VS and all my underwear.

Also, what do you think of corsets? I saw some really cute ones at Hot Topic (I assure you I am not an emo shopper!). Never worn one.

Fake eyelashes? My eyelashes are sooooooo long to begin with. Fake eyelashes would look so weird on me. lol

Fake nails? I like the gel nails. They look pretty natural. I got them from prom, but beyond that I just keep my natural nails.

fake hair? None. lol

Kinda long post.... hahah

Hrmm... I have two Coach purses and two LeSportsac/Tokidoki. I also have a XOXO that I bought from Ross! :p Wahahaha... I mostly use the my medium sized Tokidoki. Mom got me the ones from C when I came home for the summer because she felt like spoiling me since she missed me. :( One of the zippers broke off from my small Toki so I mostly use it to keep spare change or receipts :(

and she's the eyebrow technician at the salon.
LOL! I love how you designate it as "eyebrow technician." For prom, I went to Macy's and they had a eyebrow shaping station. I usually just plucked mine via tweezers and I never really trimmed the actual brows. I never combed them (not like they're similar to the Juiceman guy) to define shape. My eyebrows are not perfectly symmetric to each other but they're fine. I get the occasional wax but I'm starting to do it myself.

6. Do you get tanned?
I've only become more tanned from walking around a LOT from my apt to school and back and then some exploration in the nearby college town in addition to walking to and from class whatev... so I've been tanning in that sense but I don't need to look like a hash brown. I don't like looking ghost-white with my veins showing...

 1. Hair salons? ($100 hair coloring versus $7 box of Loreal @ Rite-Aid?) I don't dye my hair. Its about $50 for a haircut.
I have highlights now... I'm thinking of just doing boxes since I'm going to go solid colors from now on. One of my hair bills was about 120 from the highlights and haircut... :( I usually never splurge like that... it was a going-home-for-summer thing.

manis + pedis
Occasionally but mostly to bond with the girls and have the occasional fun and pampering. ;P
I think half my bras come from VS and all my underwear.
All of my underwear comes from VS (5 for 20 anyone?! wahahah) Brazilian cuts are so cute!
I tried fake eyelashes before prom...
they were cool looking but it reminded me of elephants and long lashes. It's a bit of a pain to put them on... glue and all.
I like the gel nails
I got French tips a few weeks ago and one of my friends told me not to get gel nails/French tips... they're pretty bad for you and when they're growing out your nails start to get really nasty looking.

Another question: How much do you spend on makeup?
I spend quite a lot. One of the few things I spend a lot of money on. I think it's because they last quite a while. Unlike things like fake nails..

Do you have an expensive handbag too?
No. It's not $1000 but it's not $10 either.

How many handbags do you have?
1. It's good quality and I use it for going out, school, everywhere. I just dont like transferring all my stuff from 1 bag to another.. so I bought 1 nice one lol.

Are you swayed by consumer culture? ...is this just a woman thing?
I think I get swayed.. I guess men get swayed too.. with differnet things like.. uhh i dunno cars? lol

Do you get your eyebrows waxed?
I pluck.

Do you get tanned? (either lying outside in bikini or being baked in a tanning oven)
In the summer I occasionally tan only because Im out with friends and it like, comes with the socializing.. But sunblock lotion is a must.. And Im pretty happy with my skin color (healthy looking asian skin tone).

Manicures and pedicures?
No.. I do my own.. wouldnt spend $30 on stuff like these..

Hair salons? ($100 hair coloring versus $7 box of Loreal @ Rite-Aid?)
Yes I spend quite a lot on hair because this is also very important to me lol. I get chemical straightening done once a year ($130.. good investment for the year) and maybe color once in a while at a reputable hair salon.

How much do you spend on beauty products?
I dont know.. up to $100 i guess?

Having to buy bras for 40 bucks a pop at VS doesn't help either... Also, what do you think of corsets? I saw some really cute ones at Hot Topic (I assure you I am not an emo shopper!)
Corsets? hahahaha na.. doesnt really tickle my fancy to be honest..

Fake eyelashes? Fake nails? ...fake hair?
Haven't tried any. But my friends have had their eyelashes extended professionally at korean salons and they look extremely good. Really natural because they are at good length, and they just look real nice. But they're a bit pricey ($100, then $30 for touch ups every month).

Other Questions:

How much do you spend on makeup? umm i guess my whole make up collection sums up to.... $300? but I didnt buy it all at once.. it was throughout the years haha

Do you have an expensive handbag too?
no I don't like those brand name bags except for balenciaga. I just buy bags that I like.

How many handbags do you have? i think 6. I only use one or 2 haha

Are you swayed by consumer culture? ...is this just a woman thing?
I guess. and it could be a man thing too. it just doesnt happen as much

Do you get your eyebrows waxed?
nope. want to try it, but I stick to tweezers right now

Do you get tanned?
I dont want to tan, but I tan like crazy. If I'm outside for half an hour, I'm a shade darker. But you're probably talking about fake tanning so no I dont.
But I want to once because I have so many disgusting tan lines, I wanna even those out.

Manicures and pedicures?
once in a while

Hair salons?
I usually cut my own hair (trim, get rid of split ends so my hair grows extra fast and stays healthy). I go to salons after every 2 months or so so they could fix it up a bit. I dye my own hair.

How much do you spend on beauty products?
hahaha, too much?

Having to buy bras for 40 bucks a pop at VS doesn't help either.
yeah it sucks, but if you go to macy's it has a calvin klein underwear section and they're sooo cute and cheaper. also, they have some cute things wandering around in the rest of the bra sections if you wanna search.

Also, what do you think of corsets?
they're cool.

Fake eyelashes?
eh they're hard to handle, but if you do, use singles and kinda spread it out a bit or just put a few at the end of your eye.

Fake nails?
dont like them. i think they're freaky too

fake hair?
extensions.. i dont have any but i had a bunch of friends who did. if you want them, get good ones. have it done professionally (tony and guy is one of the best salons ever). never get the glue in type either haha
