girls over boys???

is it true that suny genese takes females over males??

if so why??

please respond

I thought in general colleges accepted more females than males.

If you look at the Common Data Set for enrollment at Geneseo
(<a href="http://www.geneseo.edu/CMS/display.php?page=7354&dpt=iresearch%5B/url%5D">http://www.geneseo.edu/CMS/display.php?page=7354&dpt=iresearch</a>)</p>

you will see that for 2007-2008 Freshman: 4018 Men applied, 1609 were admitted (that's 40%), and of that 459 actually enrolled (that's 28.5%), on the other hand 6256 Women applied, 2135 were admitted (that's 34%), and of that 573 actually enrolled (that's 26.8%)

You can find lots of other factual information in the Common Data Set. If the above link doesn't work just search Data Set on the main Geneseo site.

they don't CHOOSE females over males. They get more females who apply and who actually want to go there. Probably because Geneseo is a liberal arts school and known for education.

as in the education major.... for people who want to be teachers

in general, most colleges accept less-qualified males because sooo many highly qualified females apply. they want to keep a fifty-fifty ratio.

"The reality is that because young men are rarer, they're more valued applicants. Today, two-thirds of colleges and universities report that they get more female than male applicants, and more than 56 percent of undergraduates nationwide are women. Demographers predict that by 2009, only 42 percent of all baccalaureate degrees awarded in the United States will be given to men."

I don't think anyone in the SUNY system uses gender as a criterion for admission. I can't speak to private schools, however.

Chris

the girls seem much more motivated than guys at geneseo, coming from a guy. I think that says something.
