girls run the honors classes.

at my school the typical class size is around 20 or so for an honors class and for EVERY SINGLE HONORS/AP CLASS there are about 16-17 girls and only 3-4 boys. is it like that at other schools? most of the boys dont care that much. but...the smartest kids in the class are USUALLY the boys. wondering if this is only for my school?

Smartest kids in the class are USUALLY boys?

Uhm...nope, sorry. Not true. Past three high schools I've been in, it's usually the females who are valedictorian and salutorian. In fact...yep, that's how it was at the 3 graduations I've been to. And as for full IB Diploma vs. IB Certificate students, it's usually males who take the IB Cert and not the full IB Diploma.

Of course, if the gender balance is significantly skewed in the favor of the females, it would make sense for them to outnumber the males in any class.

Yes, our AP/Honors classes are more heavily populated with girls than guys, except math, where it is about equal. We have had girl vals/sals for a while except there has been a recent reversion back to guy val/sals esp with this years seniors and juniors (In my class there is only one girl in the top 5 that I know of...she is #3)

It seems like a lot of the girls in honors and AP classes are professional teachers pets and know how to work the teacher for a better grade.

Perhaps at your school.

Yeah, girls are everywhere. However, the cream of the crop is usually a couple of guys and a couple of girls. It's like there are a few very guys and the rest are dumbasses, whereas most of the girls are somewhere in between.

yea lots of girls an they boys usually seem to be the smartest by far but those girls work their asses off

"Of course, if the gender balance is significantly skewed in the favor of the females, it would make sense for them to outnumber the males in any class."

the school is about 55% boys and 45% girls i would say but the honors classes are still as i said above.

since we dont get ranks till senior year im not real sure whos in there but im pretty sure the guys are a little higher overall.

as for the girls working their asses off i noticed that. they are more meticulous about their work and spend more time preparing where as the boys (in general) seem to be more prone to "wingin" things

ive noticed that too, its like almost all are white girls... i dont think ive ever had a class with a black boy in it... and i live in south fla...go figure.... our top five (junior) is mostly girls (girl val/sal... im a guy and im 5th, idk whos 3rd or 4th...)... my ap calc class is the only one thats guy-dominated... heh

my ap english class of like 25 has 5 guys... thats it... its sad... lol, my ap spanish about the same... apush has 3... we are so underrepresented!!!

In my school, there is almost always a majority of girls in honors and AP classes. Girls have been valedictorians more often then guys.

Boys have a larger IQ distribution. Don't panic- I'm not claiming guys are smarter than girls. The bell curve, if you will, of IQ in males has a larger range than the IQ curve for females. Thus, mentally retarded boys outnumber mentally retarded girls, and extremely gifted (IQ 150+) boys outnumber thier female counterparts. There are more girls of "average" intelligence (which is around IQ 100) than guys, and more "smart" (IQ115-130) girls than guys. I believe, however, that girls are often harder workers than guys. I know plenty of "gifted" (IQ130+) males who are extremely lazy- which is quite a waste if you ask me.

Top 10 at my school:

Girl

Boy

Girl

Girl

Boy

Girl

:)

Girls run all our clubs too and our NHS President for the last 5 years has been a girl.

It's a feminist revolution!!!:)

lol... i know, arent more girls in college and med/ law school now??

i brought this up because my english teacher told us about how girls earn only like 75-80 cents to every dollar a guy makes in the SAME EXACT job with the SAME experience/background. he also mentioned that for the 15 years hes taught that the most boys hes had out of like 20 is 8 OUT OF ALL of his years its never been over 1/2.

I've found that the girls tend to be harder workers than the guys, giving them an irregular placement at the top, my school both #1 and #2 are girls, but they are NOT the smartest in the class at all, they both know it, and the people who I would consider the SMARTEST are guys (myself being one of them).

The "women earn only xxx cents on every dollar to males" arguement is flawed because most women take time off to have babies. The reason also that males have a higher IQ distribution is because many males don't go to college, they go on to blue collar jobs, which don't require a high IQ usually.

IQ doesn't take into account education.

our top 10 is probably 9 girls and 1 guy, but that's besides the point, it doesn't mean they're smarter, in our ap physics class it's like 17 guys and 5 girls?

i think i'm smarter than at least half of the girls in the top 10, but i rank 22...

Ok...at my school

There is one guy for every 6 girls...

I'm a guy! :-)

rank does not necessarily mean you're smart, nor do EC's, if you're organized and hardoworking it's quite easy to have a high rank, and it's easy to get elected to offices and ****. At the same time you can be a genius but lazy or apathetic and have a very low rank, as is the case with one of my good friends who simply does not come to school, but is just as smart as anyone I know.

I consider myself one of the smartest people in my school, yet myrank is like 40, I have the highest SAT score in my school, but do not study and am incredibly unorganized, plus a bunch of family with my mom's sickness and recent death which have held me back through high school. Just because you're in the AP classes or have a top rank doesn't mean you're the smartest.

I believe girls as a whole are generally more directed and organized than guys are, giving them higher rank and better success in AP classes, but most of the SMARTEST people I know are guys. Not to say that there arn't some smart girls, I'm jsut repeating my experience.
