Finally this thread returns to a happy place. :-)

Ben you're so right - it was super late when I wrote that and upon rereading it today I realize that it doesn't convey exactly what I was trying to say about the differences in process between MIT and Caltech. I think you know what I'm trying to say, but for someone who's not in the middle of it (to the extent that we are) would have trouble deciphering my last post. Argh... talk about things that are hard to translate.

I think what is really telling is the applicant that MIT rejects to which Caltech says "are you kidding me? That kid is perfect..." and the applicant that Caltech rejects to which MIT is equally dumbfounded. These applicants would tell us a lot, if anyone bothered to study them in depth. The cross-admits would certainly be a compelling study as well.

Anyway... back to reading apps for this guy.

I believe, if you really want to be in the in crowd, it would be spelled "tvte" -- the inscriptions on the main academic buildings are in Roman script, and all the u's are v's.

Haha, do the inscriptions at Caltech also have v's? I thought it was much prettier out there, and there was less of a need for Roman inscriptions on frosty concrete buildings. :)

I was scared someone would read the wrong thing into it... lol. I imagine most people wouldn't think of pronouncing it that way, unless you're in a particularly French mindset.

I don't think so, but their banner didn't cover "Institvte"! ;)

Most Caltech buildings are also concrete, by the way... which generally means much leaning out of windows and walking around outside in the dark for friends when I call them.

Funny thing, though... I had six bars on my phone as I was walking through the wafflehouse. Explanation, anyone?

Ok, I was wondering about that. Glad you clarified :).
