Girls Who Code 2018

I couldn’t seem to find a 2018 GWC discussion thread so I decided to start one…Anyone from the first pool of applicants get their decisions back yet?

yeah, I got waitlisted. anyone else?

Same :frowning: I was REALLY hoping I’d get in

Does anyone know how likely we are to move off the waitlist? Are the chances high or is the waitlist just a nice way of rejecting us?

I got rejected outright and I was really hoping to get in. What did you guys write about to get waitlisted?

waitlisted
what area did you guys apply to?

@cookie7 Bay Area. What about you?

@settlersfan001 - my essay was pretty terrible: I wrote about the classic stuff - why I wanted to code and how not a lot of girls do so…I really wish they selected us based on more than a 300 word essay

Did anyone get accepted?

same; bay area

I applied for Bay Area as well. I bet it’s more competitive than other areas but I’m not sure.

I applied to NYC. Wrote about volunteering and going to an all girls school. I guess it’s more competitive here too

i got waitlisted too on the bay area location… i thought about it and since we’re early app we’ll get priority selection to into the program. even if one person from regular decision gets in from bay area waitlist we would all technically have to be offered a spot as well, so i’m not giving up hope yet! however i just hope in the chance i do get offered a spot i can actually go to it cus it’s based on city, not the actual program we applied for.

oh that’s true
did anyone get accepted?

*edit: i misread- actually we only get offers from the classrooms we have applied to, not offers from other ones in the city we didn’t apply for (“As spots open up, we will begin to place waitlisted students into one of the classrooms that they applied for.”) however i’m still confused about what the unranked waitlist entails

same…if the waitlist is unranked, how do they choose who gets to go off the list?

did anyone who was waitlisted last year get in?

@alexrusso9 my friend who went last year said that people from the waitlist were still getting invited to the class a week into it, so yes.

i got accepted but am not sure how competitive my area is

My D2 got accepted (LA). We are shocked because my D1 applied two years in a row and didn’t get in.

Any alum to share their experiences?
