Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Program 2019

I could not find any current information so am starting a new thread. Presently filling out the application for the summer program and formulating the essay. 300 words isn’t a lot of space to write. Are they very strict about word count (trying to get it down) or if it’s a little over (say 30 words), will that be okay?

Never mind. I got my answer. The application form does not allow you to proceed to the next section if your essay is over the word limit.

Hope people will post once the March 15th acceptance deadline rolls in

Hard to imagine how they ll select the girls. No grades, no recommendation letters, no activities list. Just one short essay.
Does anyone know how they release results? Do all go out together at once?

Did any of you get a confirmation email after submitting?

Yes, I received a confirmation email. But then also received emails saying that my application is still pending. I think my application submission went through fine.

Has anyone got an email of acceptance yet? I just keep waiting for an email.

Not yet. Hopefully by the end of the week.

Is your application still in holding?

I got in but I never got an email, I only noticed it today when I went on the survey monkey

I just got my acceptance email, it came a week sooner than it stated on the website.

I actually got the email 30 minutes after I saw it on the survey monkey.

I got accepted too.

Accepted!!

Good job everyone! This program is super good for female applicants who want to do CS. Congrats on getting in

GoBears2023…Could you describe an average day in the program? What is done over the 7 weeks?

Also, the location that I’ve been assigned is about an hour away and there’s another one that’s only about 15 minutes. Do you know if they might change my location if I ask?

@snsh5713 If you have accepted that location that is an hour away, you can’t change locations. It says in their FAQ’s that all locations are final. You’ll just have to decline it if you can’t make it every day.

From their FAQ:
No. Location assignments are final.

To provide the best experience for our participants, each Summer Immersion Program is limited to 20 students. Unfortunately, that means we cannot accommodate students who want to change their location after offers have been made.

If you decide you can no longer participate, please let us know as soon as possible so we may make your seat available to a student on the waitlist:

If you received an offer but haven’t accepted it: please decline the offer on SurveyMonkey. (Sign in using the same email address and password you used to apply.)

If you have already accepted your offer and completed the registration process, but wish to withdraw from the program: you can do so by completing this form."

@snsh5713 why didn’t you apply to the one that was 15 minutes away?

I’m pretty sure I gave that as my first choice. There was another closer one too which I gave as the 2nd choice. Not sure how they ended up giving this one

My daughter is accepted to the 2019 Girls Who Code Summer Immersion program in NYC. She will be at the Goldman Sachs location, but I’m wondering if there are any other girls who will be commuting on the Hudson or Harlem lines on Metro North that are participating in the city? It’s a long commute (she would be getting on in Cold Spring on the Hudson line or Southeast Station on the Harlem line), and it would be nice to do it with someone!

Hi, I am from the LA area. I got waitlisted  Kind of a bummer, but theres still hope!!!
