I am a incoming junior (i.e. 10th->11th grade) and I am interested in studying computer science in university. As a result, I am currently studying the subject (for fun, of coarse) and wondering whether Github contributions/general programming for projects is a valid EC that may increase my chances of getting into a university. I am saying this mainly because of my lack of strengths in other areas. For example, my current UW GPA is around 3.75 (I know, not the best), although what makes this worse is that the only classes I got Bs (and one C, though I should note that on one standardized algebra exam I did get a perfect score) in were mathematics classes. This is bad because as you know, CS is heavily math oriented. But lets say admissions officers see that, although not perfect in HS math, that I am able to focus on my intended major via my Github account, will that increase my chances at getting into school for CS?

Shameless bump time.

Maybe but usually ECs can’t make up for mediocre grades for highly competitive schools.

@kei04086 Thankfully I still have more time to juice up my GPA and hopefully I can make a pretty good SAT/ACT score. So, hopefully there will be an upward trend.
