give it to me straight

how much tougher is it for out of state students to get in? I've read all the statistics and articles.. but nothing is consistent. I've seen everything from 2% acceptance to 20%... anyone know the truth?

really tuff

megan your best bet is to look for students in your area who have gotten into berkeley (or who have gotten rejected) and examining their stats.

I think the acceptance rate is around 20% for OOS, 28% for instate, and 12% for international according to some stats I've come across.

Yourzer's stats are about right.

28% is a bit high; last year's, I think, was 23.5%.

I too heard that it's 20% for OOS -- where that number comes from, I don't know.

25% in-state, 20% OOS. However, that ignores a possible self-selectivity of the app pool. For example, does Cal receive a bunch of in-state apps from kids who really belong at Riverside, but only apply to win the lottery? Is the OOS app pile more selective with only highly qualified kids? Dunno?

You can get that information from the book that the UC system publishes every year. It has data on the stats of applicants and who got accepted for every UC. For example, it would say how many applied that had 700-800 on a section of the SAT and what percent of those applicants got accepted. You can compare the applicant pools for different UC's and determine how selective each UC is from these stats.

true, but it does not break out international and OOS apps.
