Give me a chance! I'm quite average

<p>Applying to UCs, aiming for UCLA/UCSD/UCI. Will a good essay help? And is it hard to get in as an English major?</p>

<p>Your SAT is not exceptional and your GPA is far too low. The average UCLA admitted student has a 4.38 GPA. You’re probably not going to make it.</p>

<p>At our school I don’t even think it’s possible to have a 4.38 GPA… I think our Valedictorian’s GPA is 4.1 or so. But yea, although UCLA might be a reach, i’m not discouraged. My brother got in… he has slightly better grades/test scores but less ECs. Will applying for English as a major make it any harder for me?</p>

<p>Well, I got in with worse stats than you and I’m an English major. You have a chance. Although, I had a higher GPA.</p>

<p>At a place like UCLA, good grades and test scores usually trump EC’s. However, try your best; it’s all in context I suppose.</p>
