Give Me A Chance :) please

Hello! How was your day?

Well, anyway..... I really need some reassurance or awakening when it comes to the various colleges that I plan on applying to.

Here are my stats :)

Race: I am Hispanic and other various races, but I will identify as Hispanic on my applications
Location: I live in New York State
High School: A moderate size public school consisting of well over 1000 students. There are roughly 350 students in my grade. It is pretty competitive, with students going to Ivies yearly.

My Grades
GPA: I have roughly a 3.7 un weighted and I don't know my weighted.
Class Rank: top 10% though barely
Classes: I've taken all the AP's accessible to me. I've never been in "regular" classes, which means only Honors, Advanced, AP, or college level. 5yrs of math, science, Spanish, and engineering. 4 years of rest.
PLTW: A series of 5 college level engineering courses (from RIT)that I always get 100 or near
~ I always get decent grades in my classes, meaning above a 90, except for a horrible 82 in Spanish this year, and I'm Hispanic haha

EC's:
National Honor Society: I organized a Relay for Life (more like took control, because I am more capable than the president haha) and I am head of the media committee. It is pretty prestigious competitive.
Expanded Horizons: A group of intellectuals who expand their horizons by going to different schools to meet other teachers and students.
Naval Sea Cadets: 4 yrs, petty officer
Community Service: Well over 100 hours doing various things that I am devoted to.
Sports: Nordic Skiing 1 yr, Tennis 2yr, Golf 2yr. All Varsity.
Awards: tons mainly academic and from the NHS
~ Others that I can't remember haha

Standardized tests:
I recieved a 217 on the PSAT and I got a 1920 on the SAT. I know, crap and a drop from the PSAT, but it wasn't a good day. No ACT yet but I hope for at least a 30.

Colleges I plan on applying to:
Colgate (<3), Vassar ( <3), Boston College, various SUNY's, Wesleyan, NYU. Can you fine young women and gentlemen suggest other LAC's, Ivies (possibly?), and other colleges in general, that I could get into perhaps. Also can you suggest some colleges from California, I would like to broaden my horizons, and Cali seems like a wonderful place.
Thanks Sooooo Much :)!
~I shall chance back as well!

In CA, USC may be worth considering if you can get that SAT score up a little. I would also take a look at Bucknell. Your stats and resume make all the Ivies reaches. Maybe apply to Cornell and Penn, but the odds are stacked against you somewhat, even with your Hispanic status. Make sure you take into consideration the expense of attending some of the schools on your list, if financial aid is a concern.

Good luck!

Thank you for your input! I have taken in consideration the costs of these schools, and most likely I will need some sort of financial aid. But thank you!

Hi. My day was great, thanks!

You have an impressive high school career. Get your SAT up to 2100+, and you could apply to USC/UCLA/UCB. I am not so sure about Ivies, as you GPA/SAT is a tad bit low, but if you are really interested in one of them, apply.

Good luck :)

Thats good to hear
Yeah I am defiantly going to try to get my SAT up! but thanks for the input!

Anyone Else? Por Favor

PS -if anything is unclear, feel free to ask! Thanks again!

Hello, I’m honestly not that familiar with many of these schools, but I think she has pretty strong stats and will be a fair applicant for all of those schools. Good Luck and sorry that I wasn’t a big help! So would you like to chance me?

ivies are a reach, of course. UCLA and Berkeley can be mid to low reaches.

Thanks! anyone else?

Lumos  (Harry Potter reference)

Hi FamousCon (:

Did you know if you had NorCal or SoCal in mind? And whats your intended major?

I was thinking more southern california, but any suggestions for northern Cali are fine! I’m really interested in Biology, so I think I will major in Bio. Thank You!

Bump. Bump

You appear to have a decent shot at most of these schools except for the ivies (because they are so unpredictable.) Your stats are not bad but at the same time there is room for improvement such as SAT. Your GPA is slightly lower than preferred but it is true that since you’re Hispanic you receive a slight advantage in your applications. I suggest applying and hoping for the best. I hope I helped  Good Luck!

Chance Me?

Thank you so much! I will defiantly bring up my SAT! anyone else?

Being Hispanic actually helps you a lot on these applications, as a lot of schools dont really have a huge Hispanic base. I honestly think everything looks decently good for the schools youre trying to get into, save for your SAT (colleges dont really care about the PSAT much). If you can somehow bring that up, youll be completely set.

Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1199146-insert-snappy-title-here-i-chance-back.html</a></p>

If you like Colgate and Vassar, I’d check out Hamilton, Lehigh, and Bucknell! Also, if you bring your SAT up a little bit, I’d consider Williams or Swarthmore (but they are both incredibly competitive! If you can bring up your grades a little bit this year and your SAT I’d say that you might want to look at Dartmouth!

Best of luck!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1196782-chances-brown-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

Thanks guys! lexieam, I was also thinking about considering those schools. But I think my scores and ec’s are too weak for even a consideration from Williams or Swarthmore! Thank you guys seriously!

You have a really good chance at anywhere you mentioned (Colgate, Vassar, etc.) I’d pick out a couple Ivies- hey, provided that the application fee isn’t exorbitant, why not? You’re Hispanic and you’ve got a good record. Get that SAT up and you’ll do fine. Chance me back?
