JHU is in my top 3 so yeah I really would like to go to JHU and major in BME, but that's probably a long shot. i wouldn't mind majoring in something else (engineering related). I think I'm going to apply undeclared so I might have a better shot at BME but i don't know, possibly ED pending another visit. I know my weak spots are my standardized test scores and ECs. I actually have done a lot though. Mainly sports and service related. Can't really describe my ECs in a few words. they're all in a word document lol. Nothing really AMAZING I'll admit like I've seen on CC, but I've really excelled in the classroom, on the playing field, and in the real world (if that means anything). Personally, I think I'm a toss up, 50% chance I think. I really don't know though.

**
Just a few questions. **
Does JHU consider the SAT I out of 1600 or 2400 (basically, writing section or no?)
Even though I'll have two good SAT II scores will my Literature SAT II hurt me?
How is financial aid at JHU?

**if anyone wants to... **chances at UPenn, Cornell, Georgetown, Columbia, Notre Dame, Lehigh, Villanova, Penn St. (honors), Drexel

That was long. sorry. any opinions, recommendations, or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!!

Honestly, I've seen people with better resumes not get in. Sorry.

hmm ... I'm sure that's very true. But couldn't you also say that people with worse or similar stats have been accepted either by ED, RD, or waitlist as well? Oh well, thanks.

anyone else?

If you apply Early Decision you probably have a decent (60-69%) chance, but if you apply Regular Decision its probably closer to a 45% chance. Thats just my completely unprofessional opinion though.

^ hmm didn't know applying ED would help that much. thanks.

Consider retaking the SATs.

Aside from that though, I've seen people with worse resumes get in, and people with better resumes not get in, so don't worry about it.

Just apply and see what happens.

ED helps alot, especially at schools like Hopkins and Duke.

Financial Aid at JHU is very good. Their avg grant is pretty high (it was in a best 361 colleges somewhere)...they gave me $10,000 in grant when schools like Cornell said i didn't even quality for financial aid.

thanks everyone. I'm really going to consider applying ED because it would probably give me the best of chance of getting into one of the top schools that I like on my list. good financial aid is always a plus too.

i'm taking the ACT on... SATURDAY! AH but hopefully i can get 32+. if not i'm going to take the SAT in October. thanks again.

"thanks everyone. I'm really going to consider applying ED because it would probably give me the best of chance of getting into one of the top schools that I like on my list. good financial aid is always a plus too."

Possibly the single largest misconception in the entire college process. You apply early because you want to go there, not to boost chances or because you think they will give good aid. Suppose you get in but the aid is less than you hoped for. Oh well, because now you can't compare with other schools.

what is the last SAT you can take in time for ED?

@YanksDolpins... did you read my entire first post (probably not). i guess i'll quote myself.

"JHU is in my top 3 so yeah I really would like to go to JHU and major in BME, but that's probably a long shot. i wouldn't mind majoring in something else (engineering related). I think I'm going to apply undeclared so I might have a better shot at BME but i don't know, possibly ED pending another visit."

yes TOP THREE (no specific order) i would love to go to JHU and i've been considering applying ED for quite a while now. i'm torn between UPenn and JHU because I love both of them. financial aid is an added bonus and would definitely factor into my decision. if i get in i want to be able to afford the school no matter what aid they give me.

and yes i will apply early if I know it will boost my chances because I really want to go there. thanks for the ED lecture though.

oh and eivis, october for sure. and some schools accept november scores, depends though.

Believe in yourself. I think you will have a very good chance at hopkins. Hope to see you on campus next year!

And to YanksDolphins:

As Hopkins students, we shouldn't use our now advantageous position to discourage other students from coming to our school. Frankly, you make it sound like it's nearly impossible to get admitted.

And by the way Akittka, I applied ED with a similar profile like yours and got in. And yes, I applied ED partly because hopkins has a higher ED acceptance rate, and that it probably would offer better finaid. Don't worry, it's not as mysterious as it seems.

If it becomes your top choice without doubt, apply early. If you're still torn with Penn, I'd suggest waiting for regular decision. Your stats are good enough that you will be seriously considered in the regular decision pool, but then again by no means is it a shoe-in. Goodluck!

Your profile is very similar to mine, and I managed to get in. I think you have excellent chances. I read somewhere that this year, about 40% of ED applicants were accepted (in the ED round, of course). You definitely have greater chances of acceptance here than at UPenn. Just read the 2012 decisions thread, and you can see that you fit in with many accepted profiles.

you'll be fine Akittka, YanksDolphins is apparently on his way to become an elitist douchy math major

I'm a douchy math major because I'm being honest? My friend was class valedictorian, Intel semi-finalist, Intel ISEF winner, numerous awards, high SAT's, and he was waitlisted. Sorry, but that's the truth. And if it sucks, well too bad, it sucks. I'm not discouraging anyone from applying. This is why I think these threads are stupid and why I never posted one. It's a total crapshoot.

yeah that happened at my school too. top kid in the senior class with a perfect resume was waitlisted at Notre Dame. everyone was stunned, but he ended up being accepted. admissions really are a crapshoot, but whatever.

thanks everyone.
