Hi I'm a Kiwi (from New Zealand) thinking about applying for the class of 2014.

Recs-
From my English and History teacher. Should be good!

Hooks: None

I'm wondering what my chances are at the following schools (they're all amazing, I know XD)
Harvard
Yale
Princeton
Columbia
Dartmouth
Duke
Georgetown
Williams
Amherst
UChicago

I would recommend taking SAT I again, because of your Asian ethnicity and the fact you’re applying for financial aid.

lol, you have no hook? I’d say your extraordinary accomplishments in badminton are hook enough. Definitely write about them in college essays!

If you break 2300 for SAT:

Harvard - mid- to high-reach
Yale - mid- to high-reach
Princeton - mid- to high-reach
Columbia - reach
Dartmouth - low-reach to match
Duke - low-reach to match
Georgetown - low-reach to match (unless you capitalize on your involvement in debating, then probably match)
Williams - don’t really know the school, but probably match
Amherst - same as Williams
UChicago - I think match

Thanks! Chanced back?
Do you think that writing about extracurriculars in the app. essay is a good idea? I’ve always thought that schools want to learn more about you as a person, rather than just reiterating extracurriculars listed elsewhere in your app?

Harvard - reach
Yale - reach
Princeton - reach
Columbia - low reach
Dartmouth - low reach
Duke - high match/low reach
Georgetown - high match
Williams - match
Amherst - match
UChicago - match

Really good EC’s. Your scores are low for international applicants, and you ought to check which schools aren’t need blind to internationals, because that will be a factor as well. I think you have a solid shot at most of them. Good luck!

@Sangwoo- Lol really? I thought it was the other way around? I was hoping that my extensive involvement in badminton would boost my average academics? Or is the fact that badminton isn’t a NCAA sport going to greatly reduce the appeal of my EC?
