Give Me a Reason To Choose Michigan

Laurenzo92, I feel the exact same way. I love everything about Michigan but the thought of not being able to study business kills me. We worked hard in high school to be business majors, so I feel like we should go to a guaranteed business school. Are you considering Illinois business? I like Illinois better than Kelley.

^^^If you want to go into business, you might as well get ready for competition.

@norcalryan I actually got into Illinois and McCombs at Texas as well. I like illinois but I feel there’s something about Kelley and Indiana as a whole that is so much more welcoming. Plus I have the honors college and scholarship at Indiana. I am waiting to see if they send me anything. But yea…Illinois is deff still in the running.

oh and @yalieatheart YOU HAVE A DECISION MAKER? whoever gave that to you must be one wise and intelligent person. :D

I would chose McCombs over Kelly or UIUC personally.

^^^^We get the point Alexandre. Three times!

Get the **** out of here. I don’t want u at Michigan.

sorry to hijack this, but im in similar situation… ill keep it simple
-got into Kelley (with scholarship)
-got into Umich (denied from pre admit)
-im business undeiced
-i kno you can study economics and stuff at LSA umich , if i dont get into Ross regular decision… any help on this one?

p.s. got directly into maryland business school as well

So, two things.

Don’t come to Michigan to study economics if you have better/cheaper options. The department is too large, poorly run, and everyone in it hates it. Just don’t do it. Study something else and then do internships. If you can get an internship it really doesn’t matter what you study if you want to do business because your internships will probably determine your first job if you did well.

If you’re absolutely sure that you want to do business and just want to streamline your undergraduate years into pre-professional training, then just take a scholarship and go to Kelley. Otherwise, go to Michigan because it’s significantly better.

This has been my impression at least

The econ major here isn’t hard enough compared to the top schools. Yes, there is 401 and 402 which are fairly tough, but if you can get through just those two courses, you’re basically golden. The reason for that is you can opt to take very easy electives. You can make an econ major very challenging by coupling it with a difficult math sequence the takes you down the Stats 426 -> Econ 406 route… you can opt for some tougher electives such as Game Theory and the Honors seminars… but overall it’s just not very difficult if you don’t want it to be. That’s why there are so many econ majors. And I agree that it is a bit poorly run. I would not go as far as Mr. Tyler over here - I would not say “just don’t do it”. There are some very good econ professors here and if you take the tough/math/honors route it can be a very good degree.

lets say money isnt the option would u still choose Kelley…would regular decision Ross be a good option after first year?

Ross regular admission is just as good as Ross preferred admission. There is a significantly higher chance that you will be admitted as a freshman applicant.

Let me put it this way:
The kids who do not get admitted to Ross preferred or as freshmen are the ones who would have been better off going to Kelley and the like.

The point is simple: Come to Michigan if you’re motivated. Because if you are, then your grades and activities as a freshman will reflect it; Ross will admit you. Keep in mind that Ross, even regular decision, is not going to accept apathetic people.

This thing is stressing me to no end. I am now leaning more towards Michigan.
Hopefully I will know where I am going after I hear from Virginia on Friday.

Laurenzo, like Ross, McIntire is not guanranteed. If you go to UVa, like at Michigan, you will have to apply to the Business school once there and getting in is not easy.

I know. My two favorite schools aren’t guaranteed business. It makes me so mad.
