Give me $$$ advice

I haven't gotten the aid packet, but my EFC is $26k a year so I'm going to assume Stanford will meet all my need with minimal loans.

HOWEVER . . .

My mom feels she can contribute $15k (and I can forget about my dad, this is what screws me over). So there's $11k left over my head. Can I pull this off? I'm getting a National Achievement scholarship, ($2.5k for one year), and may or may not win two scholarships worth (when combined) between $1k and $3.5k. Should I try to get more aid? Loans? Pray for more scholarship? Could I do (or do more) work study? I'll cry if a fifth of Stanford's price keeps me from going to my dream school.

I am not sure that praying will help. Instead, you should try to find more scholarships, and apply for them. Fastweb.com could be a start.

Praying refers to the scholarships I've already applied for, but I am currently using fastweb, thanks for your suggestion.

Why won't your dad pay? Sorry if this is personal.

Sometimes divorced parent situations are strained financially. I hear you, OP.

Through some very bad decisions (I could list 'em for a page), he's whittled his savings down to $7,000, pays $600 a month on a very superfluous car, and has acquired over $17,000 in credit card debt. It's not that he won't, it's that thanks to his shortsightedness, he can't. Hence, my screwedness.
