[li]I educated a 9 year old autistic child for a year on my own time twice a week. I taught him how to speak correctly, write, think and express himself. Over the year, his family saw improvement, and I am very proud of this. In my essay I want to compare his obsessions with an elaborate train-set he built, to my obsessions of constantly thinking of how I could better teach him during my daily life, and then connect this to my new-found desire to major in cognitive science.
[/li]

[li]I single-handedly made a website for someone else's product. you can see it here if you like. It's an e-commerce site.
[/li]

[li]This summer I plan on going to Ghana and helping for a few weeks over there. I will take pictures with my dSLR and create a portfolio/story and maybe get a scholarship.
[/li]

[li]My GPA is low because my family (single mom, father committed suicide) went through a financial crisis and we were homeless for a while. Sometimes I did my homework in our car full of newspapers, where I would then sleep. Other times we would have to sleep in a friend's house for months. I had to spend my junior year in Utah, and arrived after the school year started, where I knew no one and had to adjust, but this is where my grades transformed.
[/li]

[li]I have a clear upward curve: straight A's junior and senior year, from B's and C's the other 2 years.
[/li]

[/ul]

CONCLUSION

I'm a junior and plan on keeping the A's and the upward curve. I will definitely bring my SAT up to 2100 or 2200.

What are my chances at Brown, Berkeley, UMich, USC, Stanford, NYU, Johns Hopkins, and any suggestions you might have. I have safeties as well...

hey just a little advice, you dont have to post 100 new threads, just post a quick reply on yours that will say

bump 10char

it will put your thread back on page one so ppl will look at it, also whenever you chance someone, ask them to chance you back and the copy and paste the url into the reply and they can link right to it

Unless I am going crazy, I think I saw you post this on Yahoo Answers pretty recently. Well then, I would say that you do have unfortunate circumstances, which is very sad. I checked out your website and I was pleaseantly impressed. Your grades are really good and your GPA is totally good! If you get your SAT to about a 2100, I would place you at a good position to get into Berkeley, Michigan and NYU. The rest of them really are tossups, as they are for most candidates.

Hahaha, ya I have been posting a lot but you guys are awesome. I think I just need to get off the computer and relax for a while, but thanks for those replies. :)

First of all, you have a really inspiring story. Congrats on turning your life into the most positive experience it can be! I would say you have really good chances at UMich, NYU, Berkeley and USC. John Hopkins and Brown are more competitive and pretty hard to chance anyone for, but you certainly have a strong shot at those as well. You have a wonderful transcript. I am especially impressed by your work with the autistic child, and I'm sure this passion will come across strongly in your applications.
Keep doing what you love, and good luck! =]

thanks for the replies!

I don't know about chances since you are still a junior but i would say that you have the potential to get into any 1 of those colleges including stanford and JHU
good luck

bump 10char

bump again =/
