Give me LOW expectations!

Hi guys ^^

And I'm actually honest. I'm almost finished with my apps, and honestly, I need to forget about the applications and not hope until the decisions come in. That way,I can make other plans, and not be too devasted (I hope!!) if I get rejected.
It makes sense to me. ;)

I'm applying to:
Middlebury
Macalester
Carleton

Nationality: I'm an international, from Sweden.

School:Charter, very good, One of the top 3 schools in Sweden, probably. We apply to high schools in 10th grade, and mine has one of the highest GPAs to get accepted in Sweden.

GPA: I have all As and one B (gym) that's about 19.97 out of 20 on the Swedish scale. Take hardest classes offered, especially in math.

Rank: We don't rank.

SAT: CR: 800 M: 530 W: 610 (I have an explanation. I decided very late that I was going to apply to college in the US, and I only had a month to prepare. It's not going to make a difference to college, but I feel better knowing I could've done better.)

TOEFL internet-based: 118

ECs: (that's the bad part of my application)
- Editor-in-chief and founder of the school paper. I began to write for my school paper in 10th grade, and continued in 11th, and switched schools and founded the paper in 12th grade.
- Foreign exchange to Michigan. Very important to me, wrote one of my essays on it.
- Language courses in England and France during the summer.
- Choir and Vocal lessons for 7 years.
- Drama since 6th grade.

Work:
- For EF (my exchange organisation) after I came home from America. I interviewed prospective students, did some administrative stuff, talked about my year, telemarketing, etc. 2 h/week.
- Tutor for a couple of kids in English,French, Math, Geography, History. from 8-10th grade. I wasn't sure if i should include it,but I did.

Recs: The two Ive seen (one counselor and one teacher) are Great. I'm just afraid they dont speak enough about my character. I havent seen the other teacher rec, I just hope it's good.

Essays: My commonapp is about my exchange year. Pretty common topic, but I liked it. My Why Middlebury essay was NOT good. The other essays will be pretty good though.

So give me low expectations.
Thank you!

Someone, please? :)

I’ll make you scones! Or spaghetti carbonara. Or… I don’t know, sponge cake with lemon curd. It’s goooood. ^^ Please?

I have an AP psychology teacher who got the same SAT scores, and got accepted to Princeton, Cornell, and Dartmouth., which are very competitive. I don’t know a lot about these schools, but sounds like you could reach higher.

Chance me back, please?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/625608-what-my-chances-these-colleges-thank-you-very-much.html</a></p>

It is difficult to guage the chances of international applicants. I would suggest that you go to the school’s website and look at the profiles of past admitted students to see how you compare and also look on their policy for international applicants, and that would be a better indicator of your chances than if random ppl tell you.

Thanks
I’ve looked at the college websites, of course, and while my GPA and CR score are good,my math score falls a little outside. I dont know if my CR can weigh upmy math?

I originally planned to apply to more selective colleges (well, Middlebury’s selective) but I didn’t have time to take the SAT IIs, which made it necessary to limit my choices.

I couldn’t edit my first post for some reason, but I forgot to say I want to major in international relations. (not very original, I know :P)

Oh, and awards. I havent go that many, but yeah.

Several school awards for being a good friend, great study results, best MUN delegate. We dont give out that many awards, and these are the only awards my school gives out.

Anyone else?
Hm… What can I make… Chocolate fudge sundaes? ^^

Well, if only your scores had been a little bit higher, you would have had a nice chance.
Withal, I wouldn’t say you have a bad EC’s list. They prefer commitment to 29 pages of EC’s, so I could say you have a chance to enter to at least one of the 3 coll. you listed.

There’s one thing that really impressed me: that 118 in TOEFL ! Congrats ! That’s one very nice score, especially for an internat.

Would you chance me back please?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/630687-chance-me-i-ll-chance-back.html</a></p>

Thanks

I would say you have pretty good chances- all are slight reaches.
your gpa is the most important thing, and since yours is really good, and all your classes are hard, then you are pretty competitive.

antonio, Thanks, but arent internationals the only ones who take the toefl? :)

ineo, thanks for replying.

Wow, your academic record is so good, it’s a true shame you got a B in gym :stuck_out_tongue: :(. anyways,…

Middlebury- high-match
Macalester-match
Carleton-high-match

i’m really impressed by your CR too!

Haha, I know. :stuck_out_tongue: I was SOOOO close to an A, but no.
Well, I guess no one’s perfect  everyone needs blotch on their permanent record… or something…

Thanks ^^

Wohaaa. Someone else? (I’m ruining out of creative bump messages)

My bad lol.
I meant to say your CR score is very good for an international and your 118 Toefl score is the answer that it wasn’t mere luck.

I really don’t know how you’ll fare but just wanted to congratulate you on that SAT CR score. I’m constantly amazed that kids with English as a second language score better than top American students! Math is the score some colleges will overlook as you can avoid math at many colleges. A high CR score says you take in and analyze data well, the key to success in college.

i dont think ur explanation will aide much, cuz u dont need a month to prepare…that said i still think those are all matches-high matches http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/623727-chances-would-appreciated-chances-back.html</a></p>

I’m not going to explain my SAT scores to the colleges :stuck_out_tongue: I just did it here because people here usually have much better scores than that.
Thanks for replying :)

hmom5, thank you for your nice compliment!
The math score made me a bit disappointed since I am very good at math. Just not… SAT math.

Hey, I got into Macalester. I’m sure you’ll be fine.
