I read this article and I'm not sure what the point of it is. True, homeschoolers are not as rare as they once were. More colleges have specific application requirements for homeschoolers than in the past. But what's the news?

It's still news to a lot of people when they find out that homeschoolers aren't anti-social idiots.

There are still lots of people out there who haven't heard that homeschooling is okay.

My dd was at the dentist the other day. Aware that dd is 18, the hygienist asked her what she was thinking about doing after high school. Dd told her which college she will attend in the fall. The hygienist basically said, "That's a nice dream, honey, but surely a homeschooler won't get in there...." Grrrrr.....

I appreciate any and all positive PR about homeschooling. It makes my life and my kids' lives that much easier!

When people say things like that to me, I always enjoy bringing up the, "Oh, but haven't you heard about Harvard not requiring a high school diploma or a GED as long as the applicant is outstanding? Really good schools can afford to judge homeschoolers accurately" bit.

That's actually one of the things I've enjoyed the most about my community college...there are so many homeschooled students here now that no one thinks anything of it anymore, and they all (especially the professors!) really appreciate us and our contributions. We're not considered "weird" -- we're just seen as bright, fun, independent, and maybe a little goofy at times. :)

Yeah, community college is great. :) I don't understand the people who are snobby about it and don't think it's worth much becauseI enrolled in some courses this summer, and it's been a great experience for me even after just a few weeks.
