heeeey haha sorry i keep asking you questions, but these darn essays are taking me forever and iwant to make sure i have all my facts straight. what exactly are the rules for double majoring at NU? do the majors have to be in different schools? can i do a major in psychology at weinberg and then a double major in something in the Comm school? i know u said that i wont be able to do a double major in journalism at medill...is there any way i'd be allowed to take their advertising classes? let me know asap coz im so confused! thanks, i appreciate it

Hey,

I was responding to someone asking about viability of double-majoring in music and something in comm. Below is what I wrote:

"Whether you can get the correct answer depends if the admission person really knows much about NU's policy of granting two majors from two different schools. I'd say you may also want to talk to the deans/associate deans of the schools you are interested in.

Double-majoring was very popular for some reason among the students from Hong Kong when I was there (I am from there too). Almost everyone of us did it. The favorite double among us was industrial engineering + econ. But one of us, if I remember correctly, did double-major in econ and social policy (which I think is in school of ed). So that's a double between school of ed and school of art sci even though there's not an official 5-yr program between them. I think music+engg is a harder combo than music+communication, so it seems to me what you want is very possible."

I got accepted to NU as BME major but switched to chemE once I got there(it's very easy; all I did was just filling out some short form and got some signatures). After 1 year or so, I added env engg as my second major; it was very easy.

It is possible to double major in communications and WCAS - I think only Medill and the School of Music have tough requirements to double major. I THINK that within and between all other schools is it relatively easy - but you may want to see if a sophomore/junior/senior on these boards can second me on this fact. Non-majors can take journalism classes in Medill, but declared journalism majors do get first choice and space in the classes, but if there is open spots after all majors have registered, non-majors are certainly allowed to take journalism/advertising classes.
