Glasses (semi-urgent)

Okay, so I have to get new glasses in general because the ones that I have are really old and so the perscription is horrible.

During the school year, I understand the the BCGs are no longer worn. Are contacts allowed? If they are, I can imagine mids would still wear glasses a lot because they are easier to manage. Does USNA issue these glasses? Or can we wear our own glasses? If so, what are the regulations? I'm going to get new glasses tonight and I would like to get ones that I can wear after plebe summer.

Contacts and personal eyeglasses are permitted after plebe summer. I believe Navy issue glasses are BCGs - so suggest bringing your own for Ac Year.

In fact, you might want to bring your regular glasses to I Day in case your BCGs are not ready. Our mid did not get hers until a couple of weeks into plebe summer. I do not know if Navy provides contact lenses.

Thanks. Anyone know the kinds of regulations on your personal glasses?

d. Glasses

(1) Prescription Glasses. No eccentric or faddish glasses are permitted. Retainer straps are authorized for FOD prevention and safety only. If retainer straps are required, they shall be plain, black and worn snugly against the back of the head.

(2) Sunglasses. Conservative sunglasses are permitted, except in military formations. Retainer straps are authorized for FOD prevention and safety only. If retainer straps are required, they shall be plain, black and worn snugly against the back of the head.

(3) Contact Lenses. Tinted contact lenses must be a natural color (blue, green, brown, etc).

Straight from bupers, here is the website if you are still uncertain. U.S. Navy Uniform Regulations, Chapter 2 - Grooming Standards

According to our Mid, mirrored or reflective sunglasses are not permitted. I am not sure if that is according to the regs, or just mandidated by his company. Additionally, his CO, a marine, wants to be able to see "the whites of their eyes" even with the shades on.

lol the term BCG still makes me laugh
