glasses vs. contacts

I found this thread on braces and it got me thinking. I wear contacts now (have since 9th grade), but have the feeling I'll get lazy and switch to glasses in college. When my college friends come home, some have switched and some haven't. With all the emphasis on looks, what is it really like on campus?

Actually from what I've noticed, girls don't care as much about looks now. I went on a date with a guy and wore a nice sweater and he commented on how I had dressed up? Yeah, hoodies and glasses all the way it seems.

I wear glasses on campus, but no one has commented on that. No one really cares how you look in a huge lecture hall especially at 8 am! The only people who dress up in college and wear 6 inches of makeup (at least mine) are the sorrority girls.

Glasses/contacts don't matter...do what's comfortable. I wear the contacts that are 24 hours a day for a month but take out for one night every 2 weeks. So I only go through 12 pairs a year unless something happens to one.

I wear glasses.

I wear contact lenses when I run.

mmm no one really cares?

idk for me it's just better to wear glasses all the time, esp at night when i do my work cuz my eyes start to hurt if i wear my 'tacts for too long. for going out or exercising, i use contacts...

I definitely prefer contacts. Glasses make my eyes hurt and they tend to fall off my face easily. I'd say I know less than 10 girls on campus that wear glasses outside of their rooms. A lot of guys do, but girls all seem to go with contacts.

I don't think anyone really cares. I used to just wear contacts (many people in high school never saw me wear glasses), but then my eyes started getting really dry last semester, and I wore glasses more often. Now, I'll usually wear contacts, since glasses can get annoying (I always get them dirty, and they just start to bug me after awhile), but if I wake up late or something, its not the end of the world if I have to wear my glasses.

True, most people wear contacts unless its an 8 o'clock class or something, but it doesn't really matter. And some people look really cute in glasses, IMO!

Not a wearer of glasses but I find girls who do wear 'em more attractive. Especially noticeable when they switch to contacts. Just putting it out there...

I agree. Girls with glasses can be very attractive. As for me personally, I usually wear contacts every day, but about one day a month I'll wear glasses when my eyes need to breathe or I want to look more academic.

My glasses fall off my face too, but it's most likely because they're bent up from me throwing them around all the time...yea for contacts!

aswat- i also wear glasses to look more intellegent...in fact, it's a trend at my school lately...

It really depends upon what your prescription is and what makes you feel comfortable. My fiance wears glasses because contacts bother him and has a think lens. I, however, have horrible eyes (failed my kindergarten eye test) and would not be comfortable in glasses unless I absolutely had to wear them (i.e. pink eye). Nobody really cares what you wear in college.

i been wearing contacts since 9th grade so its pretty much a habit of wearing them everyday. why not just get both contacts and glasses? you can just wear contacts when you go out and wear glasses when youre studying or whatever.

besides, once you go to contacts and you get use to them, its pretty much hard to go back.

I agree with yayarea. I do something very similar but didn't realize it until now. I'll take out my contacts when I'm doing a lot of reading (I'm near sighted) and like to be able to take my glasses on and off. The bottom line is that I find it necessary to have both and people won't care which you wear.

No one cares...at all. So umm...do whatever feels comfortable for you. Many many people in college wear glasses and it seems like most who do not have contacts. It's a bit tragic, really.

i wear contacts but that's because my glasses are like coke bottle thick (8.75 diopters!! :( ) and they're kind of a hassle.

besides, if you do a chem lab, they want you to wear glasses. so bring both!

Glasses all the way for me. I can't even imagine putting something in my eye. My grandpa's the same way, must be genetic.

There are a lot of people in colleges, high schools, workplaces, THE ENTIRE WORLD who wear glasses. In fact, once you hit 60 year old or so you will probably need them no matter how good your eyes are now.

Find a nice pair of frames that looks good on you. It may take some searching but once you find the right one it's worth it. I only need mine in situational times (like driving, watching ballgames/movies from far back, seeing whiteboards in any row except the front one) so I just slip them on whenever. Or if I'm in a glasses mood I'll just wear them because I can :-)

Or you could be like my College Writing II professor and have like eight pairs of glasses. This guy had a different one on every class--he had frames in red, blue, gold, black, silver, gray, purple, anything...he had red on when I saw him yesterday. (He was an awesome professor too)

I have both, but I really never wear my glasses. Contacts just become part of your routine like brushing your theeth or something.

There's nothing wrong with glasses. A lot of people look sooooo incredibly attractive in them, better than they do without. Then again there are a lot of people who don't look good in glasses or can't for the life of them pick out a good shape, and contacts compliment them more. So I don't think it's really a question of whether glasses are "dorky" or not - obviously they're not. It's just whether or not they're something that compliments you and your look. Also, if contacts are uncomfortable for you for some reason (although my experience is that if you get used to them and carry around some eyedrops, you should be fine), then of course you should go with glasses. Because certainly nobody looks /ugly/ in them.

I only got contacts because I loose glasses religiously. It's just better (and easier!) for me to pop my contacts in in the morning and wear them all day, then take them out at night and be forced to put them in the same place all of the time. I don't know why somebody who has worn contacts since 9th grade would think they're anymore of a hassle than glasses. They're so easy to put in and take out; almost as easy as opening up a glasses case and putting glasses on...so I don't quite get why you'd want to switch to glasses because you're "lazy".

And I am one of those people who used to be glasses all the way because I only needed them situationally. But the truth is, if you can't read a whiteboard, there are other things you can't see, too. Whenever I pop in my contacts I'm amazed at how sharp and awesome the world looks ;).

I definitely prefer contacts. a lot of people do look good in glasses, but I just hate wearing them.
I think the way glasses look has something to do with your face shape... they just don't look good on me (and I wore them for five years).
go with whatever works for you.
