GLBT Friendly?

At most schools it's not a problem...but I figured I would ask! And also is there is a sizeable community, or do the campus GLBT organizations have like...three members in them? Haha.

USC is pretty liberal for a private school located so close to conservative areas (Orange County, San Diego, etc.). I believe there is even a dorm floor that is GLBT themed, meaning that the people living there are GLBT or I guess like people who are GLBT. So yeah, it isn't a problem at all.

I'm still not sure where these people are getting this 'liberal' stuff from... Anyway, there is a strong GLBT population at USC. However, there is also a very strong conservative population there as well. There are certainly more conservatives than gays. Both groups are pretty vocal. So there is an occasional protest incident at the GLBT day/week/event, but never heard of anything violent or anything truly intense. So as long as you're willing to let the republicans bark a bit, no actual harm will come to you. As you can probably imagine, the arts majors are particularly hospitable to gays.

Apparently, it happened my freshman year.

The GLBTA hosts events corresponding with 'National Coming Out Week' every October, and that year they hung rainbow banners on the light posts, some of which were stolen in protest of the week. I think there were also some offensive things written in chalk on the sidewalk in the center of campus.

That's about the biggest controversial thing I can remember on campus, and it was six years ago. So it's up to you to decide whether that's a tolerable level of acceptance or not. 99.9% of people will not discriminate against you, but there are always a few jerks in every bunch.
