Glitch in the System?

Got my account to track my app today, and when I logged in it said I'm missing the transcript. Yes, I'm aware it may just take awhile to process. However, that's not what I'm concerned about. The To Do List says that I am missing my transcript three times.

This is just a glitch in the system, right? Because last I checked, I only had one transcript.

It means you entered three schools on your app.

Well, I entered two colleges in the Colleges & Universities section under Education on the Common App, but I also stated in the additional information that they didn’t give out grades or transcripts because they were just summer “camp” like programs.

That section says to list collegs at which I have attended an enrichment program, and I have gone to two “enrichment programs” at two universities, so I listed them. Again, I also explained that in the additional information (but I understand that adcoms may not have read that section yet).

Should I email admissions to clarify this or just wait and see what happens?

Yes. When you are enrolled at a school, we expect a transcript from that school.

Data entered in the open text boxes are not “read” by the computer system. The system just knows that you entered two schools and it wants transcripts from them. Your application won’t make it in front of a reader’s eyes without that taken care of.

Hope that makes sense.

Hi, Dean J. My son also had summer programs with no grades that he listed under that category. I will pass this info onto him as he is taking a break from cc for now. Is there anyone he should direct the email to? Also, since he listed the programs on the common app, it went to all the schools that he applied to. Do you think he should email those schools’ admissions personnel as well?

Thanks for your willingness to help.

DeanJ, my son submitted the common application supplement before submitting the application, but on his “to do” list on the SIS, it says he has not submitted the supplement. Is this a glitch with downloading? On the Common App site it shows as done.

OMG, I just realized I have that same problem to. :frowning: I didn’t know that that’s what it means as I too thought it was a glitch. I selected 3 schools on my CommonApp in that section that says, “If you have attended any colleges since 9th grade, including summer schools or enrichment programs hosted on a college campus, check this box…List all colleges/universities at which you have taken courses for credit or attended an enrichment program” because I have attended 3 enrichment programs at those colleges, not summer schools for credit!! How do we correct this problem? :(

Attending Summer Residential Governor’s School in Virginia would count as an enrichment program that an applicant would include on the common app under colleges.

UVa is picking this up as requiring a college transcript – but there is none. S applied over a month ago, but recently e-mailed asking why the system is looking for a transcript when none exists. The response he received was the standard – please be patient, we cannot look for specific pieces of your application – which did not address the problem or his question.

How/when will this be resolved?

The answer: by the beginning of February.

Please understand that **we are a very small office/b for the number of applications we process (around 24,000). There were 700 emails to answer on Monday. I’ve written over 100 posts on College Confidential since Christmas Eve, had over 50 comments on the blog, and have kept my Twitter client open 24/7 for the last few weeks. I think we do a better job than most schools of our size when it comes to responding to questions.

The process is automated to facilitate processing, but it’s not perfect. We do our best to make sure each application gets the attention it needs. But this takes a few weeks.

You can read my blog to see where we are in processing. I do my best to post routine updates about what we are doing throughout the entire application review.

By the way, the Common App seems to have changed the language around the college section. In the past, summer programs would not have be put there. It would have been put in the honors section.

The system is working on 24,000 applications. Status pages updates are not instantaneous. It takes some time. As I wrote on my blog, you should only be concerned with the Common App account right now. If it says items are submitted, they are submitted.

The beginning of February?? Isn’t that kind of late in the admissions time line. :frowning: I was planning on e-mailing the application info e-mail on the instructions.

Last year, we sent our first batch of missing credentials emails on February 12th.

[url=<a href=“http://uvaapplication.blogspot.com/2010/02/missing-credentials-emails-have-been.html]Notes”>Notes from Peabody: The UVA Application Process: Missing credentials emails have been sent]Notes from Peabody: The UVA Application Process: Missing credentials emails have been sent/url

Sit tight. You have to wait until April 1st for a decision regardless. We want your files to be complete.

Now, please understand if I do not answer questions as quickly from now on. I need to devote my time to reading. If I do answer questions, I might be brief. Please don’t think I’m being brusque. I’m just trying to be speedy. :)

We all appreciate your numerous communications, Dean J. Thank you.

I thought there must have been some change in common app, causing a new glitch this year. Awareness of this issue needed to be raised up a level so you would know what’s happening - but my child did try to resolve it first, as I know you like to see.

Just sent an email about this, so hopefully that’ll help it get worked out (whenever it gets answered - I understand the office is probably really busy right now  ).

My S has the same issue – listed UVa actually bc he attended a summer program there for two years. Now his SIS status indicates he needs a transcript from UVa AND mid-year report from UVa! He’s is a HS student in NoVA. He emailed about it, but was told to not worry and just wait. Kind of hard to do, but he’s hoping that when his HS transcripts get put into the system that they will catch the problem (?)

Anyone else able to solve it sooner somehow? Or is my son right? Just wait and not worry about it?

I think that colleges saying they’re missing the transcript is a common thing. On my UMich app it said I was missing my transcript three times. It takes some time to update because schools are recieving so many applications at this time.

The mid-year report is for his HS, not UVa. Your son’s guidance department will automatically send the report to all of the colleges he applied to when it is ready.

Also, since Dean J has been replying to those of you on this thread she is well aware there was a problem with the common application this year and the ‘glitch’. Just relax and let them process everything.

Folks, I think I’ve posted that you should not be worrying about status pages while we are processing. Please let us match, link, and file. We will let you know when to worry via the blog and/or a personalized email.

Sending emails or calling right now slows our administrative staff’s work.

I sent one a while ago just because your advice was to do so to get it worked out. I guess that had changed since then, but I did not check back before sending. My apologies!

Sorry to bump/bother anyone, but I was just curious about whether or not there was an update on this? I know Dean J just said two posts above to let time pass and we’d get an email or blog post about it, but I just want to make sure I’m not missing anything. Thanks guys.
