Hey I just got invited into the Global Business Honors program at Gabelli! Does anyone have any more information on the program itself, the business honors core, the opportunities associated with the program, or any personal experiences, the website did a poor job explaining the program. Also, do Global Business Honors students get access to the Alpha House also, or is that reserved for FCRH Honors students only?

Thanks

Hey just wondering, I’m an admitted Gabelli Student, how did you find out if you got invited to the program or not? Just wondering what your stats are?

My son is a freshman in GBHP this year. It is a fantastic opportunity and for him it really was a strong part of his decision to go to Fordham. There are only 16 students in his year of GBHP. I think they aim for 20 each year and I am not certain how many they invite in order to hit that target. The group is very tight and they do a lot of things together. Each semester the 16 have 2 honors Business classes that are just for them. They had a special lunch with Dean Rapaccioli during orientation; they went to see a Broadway play in October, they had lunch with Father McShane, they had a very nice Christmas/Holiday dinner, they visited the UN and they are of course getting ready for a 2 week trip to London at the end of the semester. They will travel as a group to Asia next year and South America (Chile) their junior year. These trips will cost us no more than $500/trip. Brian Dunn runs the program and he has been a great mentor to the students. The students do not have access to Alpha House, that is just Rose Hill Honors, but they have a room in the Business School building - that will be a much nicer perk when the new building opens in fall 2012.

We are thrilled with this program and I would encourage you to go to the President’s Spring Preview on April 17. Last year there was a reception for the students who were invited to GBHP and it was very nice and a great opportunity to talk to both Dean Rapaccioli and Brian Dunn and current students.

thank you ohio929496 for your insight I’m actually thrilled with this opportunity, and coupled with the full tuition scholarship they offered me I don’t see any way I could turn this down. Also, do the GBHP students take only honors business courses, or are most of their core curriculum courses honors classes. Also, how rigorous are his honors courses compared to his regular courses? I’m slightly concerned about keeping the my minimum GPA requirement to maintain my scholarship with all honors classes. And sakhi93 I applied early action back in November and received my Gabelli admissions letter in December, but I was notified about the GBHP yesterday 3/8/11.

Thanks

Freshman year students in GBHP have 2 honors business classes each semester and the other 3 classes each semester are core curriculum that are not just GBHP people but a good mixture of Gabelli and Rose Hill students. Fall semester the GBHP classes were Honors Business Math and Honors Macro-Economics. Spring semester the GBHP classes are Honors Micro-Economics and Honors Business Reading. My son also took an English class, a Religion class and a Philosophy class in the fall and this semester his other 3 classes are a Religion class, an English class and Music History (fulfills a fine arts requirement). The Honors Business Math class was definitely the challenge for the fall. From what older GBHP students have said, that class is considered to be one of the most challenging classes of the entire 4 years. My son was happy to earn a B in that class, which was his lowest grade for the semester. This semester seems somewhat easier for my son, but he is working hard to earn his good grades. I suspect that since you were offered a full-tuition scholarship, as long as you continue to work hard you will be able to meet the GPA requirement. If you would like more information PM me and I can give you my son’s e-mail -he loves to talk about the program and Fordham.

yes ohio929496 I’ll PM you now thank you

If we have not heard anything do we still have a chance…I was an RD applicant admitted early and was notified of a full tuition scholarship after calling the school to ask if i needed to submit additional paperwork

stats: 2140, 33

hi nhojcast…my son was invited to join GBHP last year in late March so there could still be a great chance for you. Some of his fellow GBHP classmates were invited even later than that date. My son’s stats were marginally lower than yours. Maybe you could email Brian Dunn (bdunn@fordham.edu) and express strong interest - it can’t hurt. Good luck, it is a truly wonderful program.

My daughter has also been invited into the GBHP however, she is now seriously considering majoring in technical theater. Does anyone know if it is it possible to do both? She also just found out today she’s been accepted into the Stern School of Business at NYU and is seriously conflicted.

^^^I think this is a question you should ask someone in both the Theatre dept and Gabelli school bc the majors are on different campuses which further complicates the issue.

Second, to major in Theatre, your D needs to interview and have her portfolio reviewed. This has already been done and decisions are going out to Theatre majors in the Class of 2015. From what I understand about the workings of the Theatre dept…my S is a major, at best, she could meet with them and start 2nd or 3rd semester if accepted. But do call and ask.

Congrats to your D! She has some excellent choices. Now she just has to figure out what she really wants! :)

Would it be worth it to email the director of the GBHP even though I was not invited in the admissions packet? I am actually very dissapointed that I was not invited. I thought I has a decent chance given my scores.

it is always worth a shot nhojcast, but if you didn’t receive a GBHP decision in your regular admissions decision it could come later. Mine came much later after my initial admissions decision in a separate folder.

Thank You soo much for your comments.I was surprised my I opened my mailbox and received a package from Fordham. I was invited to GBHP. I’m so excited…

Congrats I’d definitely seriously consider going to fordham now that you are in GBHP its honestly an amazing program from what I hear. I visited Fordham a couple weeks ago and met some other people in the program and sat in on a class, both were amazing experiences and really sealed the deal for me on Fordham.
