Global Communities Program

Hey guys!

Thrilled by today's news. I apparently got accepted into the Global Communities program. It seems amazing and I am incredibly enthused by this opportunity. Did anyone else get in/does anyone know a little more about this? Congrats to all who got in!!

Hey! I got into the Global Communities program as well but I have no clue what that is. I’m super excited anyway though! I’m gonna do a little research and try to find out what it means…

Added Note:
Here you go! This website explains it:

http://www.globalcommunities.umd.edu/intro-transition.php

This seems awesome!! Wow.

Yeah I don’t know what to take away from this… I’m guessing it’s cause I wrote about being in a global world and my love for helping people in my essays…

But what does it all mean? Are we academically worse than honors/scholars? Are we respected as much? I kinda expected honors… (4.3WGPA/2300 SAT)

I was trying to apply to the Robert Smith Program but i was surprised with Global Communities.

Having a little mixed emotions, can anyone bring some perspective?
I read the mission statement and all that but I’m still not convinced

^ They shouldn’t be exclusive?
I’m in James Clarke’s School of Engineering while being in Global Communities. The main thing I’m getting at is that we get to live in a diverse coed house in middle of the school.

I was also accepted to the program. From what I’ve read, only a small portion of students are accepted to Global Communities (75 per graduating class). It seems very prestigious. Congrats, guys =].

what leaves some of you unconvinced?

So what are we losing out on by not being in honors or scholars?

I got into it too. What does it mean???

you’re right, i didn’t realize that i was accepted into the smith program, it did not notice the bottom of the page after the long text of the Global Comm. so i figured i did not get in

Yay! We’re already meeting each other!

Are you all from the United States? I read that 1/3 of applicants invited to Global Communities are international.

I’m from the U.S…I figure most non-U.S. residents wouldn’t make their way over to CC haha. The more I hear about this program the more excited I am. Anyone I know that goes to UMD raves about the program and says they wish that they could have been a part of it. It’s not a large program, so most people probably don’t know about it. I think we should all be quite excited.

I was accepted! At first I was bummed over not getting Honors or Scholars, but honestly, I think our program is better than scholars. But that’s just me. And now I’m really excited for everything!

Plus, our dorms are way nicer!

What are all of you majoring in?

I find it odd only around 75 people are invited to this but 1000 are selected for honors. I wish there was more info on it. I am an intended theatre/international studies double major. I may do poli sci instead of international studies…not 100% sure.

@ready4college12 it’s really incredible…it’s unique…i don’t know what to make of it…i don’t think any of us does

So, the only disadvantage we really have is that we won’t have the normal dorm experience.
