Anybody know anything about Global Communities? How is this program different from Scholars? Also, is living in Dorchester as a freshmen/sophomore limiting in any way?

My friend got into that too. It’s their new program, and it says that only 75 students are admitted into this program while 1/3 of them are international students.

Please correct me if my info is wrong.

I don’t know that much about Global Communities, but I can answer a few of the questions.

The program has been around at least since last year (I can’t recall exactly how long it’s been here).

Dorcester houses both Global Communities as well as the Jimenez-Porter Writer’s House. Some (I could believe that it’s 1/3) of the students are international exchange students, which seems like a pretty neat experience! It’s on North Hill, so it’s not by all the other freshman dorms (which are on North Campus), but it’s about 2 minutes (no exaggeration) from both McKeldin (the library) and Stamp (the student union). [Pretty much the only thing that isn’t right by it is the dining halls, but it’s probably only about 8-10 minutes from either of the 2 dining halls currently open]. Since it’s centrally located on campus, it’s close to most classes as well.

Although you won’t be surrounded by most of the other freshmen, there will be other freshmen in the program with you, and you will meet them in classes, extracurriculars, etc.
