global excellence scholarship

are international students eligible for the global excellence scholarship? it says on the university website that all freshman students will be considered for this.

elsewhere, it is written that international students are not eligible for scholarships. so does anyone know?

tintin1992…As I read it these scholarships are for select incoming international freshmen, and sound like the equivalent of the National Gold and National Maroon scholarships (full difference and 50% difference between IS and OOS tuition…roughly $4300 or $2150) for U.S. students. It doesn’t specify the requirements for consideration for the Global Excellence scholarships, but the Nat’l Gold and Maroon scholarships list top 5% and top 10% class rankings as requirements for consideration. I’d guess the Global Excellence probably have similar criteria. It also doesn’t mention whether the G.E. scholarships are renewable for up to 4 years like the Gold and Maroon Nat’l are, so it might be worth a call or e-mail to admissions to ask the question. Your U of Minn application is all you need to do to be considered though, so unfortunately it’s just a matter of waiting now. As I read the website, I don’t think international students are eligible for any other US state or federal financial aid. Not sure about college specific or departmental scholarships either. You may want to call the particular college you’re applying to for that question. Good Luck!!

yeah i got one im an international student

@ansrox, would you mind posting your stats? thanks.

i got the Gold Global Excellence Scholarship and I’m an international student. the email says: On behalf of the International Scholarship Selection Committee at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, I am very pleased to inform you that you have been selected to receive the Gold Global Excellence Scholarship beginning fall semester (September) 2011. The Gold Global Excellence Scholarship is a four-year undergraduate tuition waiver awarded to high achieving international students to reduce the cost of non-resident tuition at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. The scholarship covers the difference between Minnesota resident and non-resident tuition rates, enabling scholarship recipients to pay the equivalent of Minnesota resident tuition. The value of this award for the 2010-2011 academic year is $4,300.

@ansrox and @nerdfighter: had you already enrolled at the university when you received the scholarship or did you receive the scholarship along with the acceptance letter?

and do you mind posting your stats? thanks.

I get one today! honor program, Admitted in mid dec, act 34, toefl 118+

hey guys,I am new to this forum.I got my scholarship of 4300$ today.Major in mathematics(applied).does anyone know how many of these scholarships are given? Also been admitted to purdue, uiuc, rutgers, texas a&m,penn state apart from minnesota.
I am waiting for wisconsin madison and umich.Pls advice on which one is better than the other for applied math and statistics.I want to do a double major in those subjects.

So the value is $4300 for this global excellence scholarship? What are the criteria?

yea the value is $4300, or whatever the difference is between resident and non-resident rates, so if the non-resident tuition increases in future then the amount of scholarship will increase… as for the criteria, i guess you have to have great grades, recs and good SAT/ACT scores. i wouldn’t say you need 2300 on the SAT, cuz i got one with 2050, but the other things have to be really good.

Hi ! Can anyone please tell me when international students are informed whether they have been awarded a scholarship or not ? What is the time gap between the acceptance e-mail and the scholarship notification?

today received Maroon Global Excellence Scholarship… 10000$ over 4 years

@shreeman3 I got admitted on Jan 23rd, and today (Feb 16) I received notification of scholarship both by mail and email

Thanks Click ! Appreciate it.

Hey. Just received a mail from the CSE and a small brochure but I still haven’t received the acceptance package ! I think it’s kind of weird that I am receiving stuff from the CSE before my actual acceptance letter from the UMN admissions office. Anyways, Will I receive my scholarships notification (if any) along with the acceptance package or will it be mailed separately? Can someone please tell me the contents of the acceptance package ?

i got my admission on 12/9 and the golden global excellence scholarship on 12/29

@Shreeman i havent received any admission package yet…I mailed them and they said that it should reach by this week if not…notify them…theyll send another…btw the reply said ADMISSION LETTER so kinda brings down my expectations of getting something awesome inside :stuck_out_tongue: UCD waitlisted me so no scholarships there too…im soooo screwed :D

It’s going to be 2 months next week since I received my admission decision by e-mail !

I received a mail from CSE congratulating me about my admission before my actual letter of admission (from the admissions office). Kind of strange :/
