Argh I'm getting so frustrated with this essay! I know what I want to talk about, I'm just not sure what they want. Is this like a micromini thesis, or is this more of a personal essay? Can anyone help? What did you guys do?

Its not like a thesis at all. Just make sure that you make it VERY personal. Essays, no matter what the subject or what school your applying to, need to connect to you and your life. Make sure you tie it in to why the issue is meaningful to you! Tell me the prompt and what you are planning to write about and I'll try to help you out.

Thank you so much!

Here is the prompt: Briefly discuss a current global issue, indicating why you consider it important and what you suggest should be done to deal with it.

I wanted to write about the food crisis in Zimbabwe and how the government has caused this problem with their land reform programs and their attempts to manipulate the vote by withholding food. I was going to suggest that they reform the land program, rescind the legislation that limits human rights, admit they have a food problem and allow international countries to help, and ensure that food is being distributed properly (and without bias) in the small towns.

Another question- do I have to attach a bibliography? All of my information is coming from an Amnesty International report. I knew a lot about this subject before but not enough to write this essay cold. Thanks!! I'm trying to get it done tonight- I really want to edit it tomorrow and mail it by Monday morning.

I would say that a bibliography is not required, but since you are using one source, it may be helpful to mention that at the end of your essay (perhaps as a footnote). Now with the essay, I would go about it by stating the problem, explaining why it is meaningful to you (perhaps include an anology, or begin your essay with you you sitting and eating breakfast and thinking about the people in zimbabwe that have no food). Then, propose the solutions and make sure you explain why you think they would work. At the end, you should include a personal note. What you should end up with is an essay that is not only personal, but very well laid out and professional. Let me know with what you come up with and I can make suggestions. Let me know if you are not comfortable posting and I'll give you my email.

Alukaszewicz- Thank you! I'm off to go work on it right now. Would you mind posting your email address? I'd much prefer to email it to you rather than post it. (BTW- that will probably be tomorrow afternoon sometime.) Anyway thanks again- you're such a great help!

Sure, no problem. Its alukaszewicz@mac.com. Good luck!
