Did anyone go to this? Anyone heard of the program? It sounds interesting... $5000 + a week meeting researchers and other students interested in math/science + a possible paid internship sounds awesome... Any idea what the accept rate is? They only accept 24 from the US, so maybe it's pretty low?

I was invited but im not going to do it because to be honest it just doesn't sound fun. The kids in the thing they sent look kind of nerdy and the b.s. letter about my "achievements in science" don't really make me want to go. So ya im a bad resource sorry lol

the people who go are seriously into math/science and have "achievements in science" like Siemens-Westighouse, Olympiads, RSI etc. People like that find programs like Lucent a lot of fun, and very rewarding. You get to do a research project at Bell labs. There may be brochures or invitations to apply floating around, but the invitations to actually attend won't go out for another month or so. The application deadline is Feb 28th.

is it really competitive? i'm thinking of applying... how many people apply?

i'm going to apply if time permits.

I'm probably going to apply.

applications are out now. Good luck to everyone who decides to apply!

I'm only a junior, but should I apply? They sent a packet to my school, probably due to my participating in the SW Regionals.

i think its just for seniors, but i am not sure about that...

anyone on how competitive it is?

I can't help but wonder how competitive it can be if they charge 5k/week...

i thought the op suggested that they paid 5k a week

"i thought the op suggested that they paid 5k a week"

That's right. The 1 week program is free, and they give you a $5k scholarship.
