Okay, I got a tonne of packages in the mail from the people at the Global Young Leaders Conference and I was just interested, what exactly is it? I've gotten a lot of junk mail from organizations that have gotten my info off collegeboard so i'm really pessimistic about it. But just to be safe, can anybody comment on the program?

I went to GYLC last summer and it was amazing. I don't know if they put their website in the package, but it's www.cylc.org you can click on the link for GYLC and read some about it and they also have a message board that you can read some of. GYLC is definitely legit. I wouldn't take back the experience at all. I also attented NYLC which was jsut for US students the year before, which was also great. I have atteneded a program put on by another group that was, to me, not as fun or interesting.

At GYLC you are put in a group called an LGM, Leadership Group Meeting, and that is the main group you will be with the whole time. Mine really became like family and it wasn't clique-ish at all, we all hung out and ate meals together and such. I had people in my group from Singapore, South Korea, the Philippines, Germany, India, Panama, Bermuda, other places aroudn the US and more. There were also people from Australia, New Zealand, France, etc. You do a few simulations within your LGM where you represent a certain country's interests in foreign affairs and debate. Overall, your LGM is a specific country (I was Ukraine, woot), and in the large UN simulations you represent your country's interests and try to work with other countries to get them to vote for your proposals (or against the ones you don't like).

Those two weeks were full of great memories. In addition to the "school" part of it, you get to travel around DC/NYC or Europe if that is where you go, see the sites, go to museums, etc. Plus, you meet some amazing people that will change your life.

Just don't expect to get a lot of sleep, because they have you going all day. And the food at the DC hotel stinks, so say the least. But you are on your own for lunch and that was enough for me =). In NYC you stay at Manhatten College, and the food is much better there.

Hope that helps =).
