So I'm going into my Junior year of college and I am thinking that after 3 years out of school I will want to start a part-time MBA program at a top university. I live in the Chicago area, so my targets would be U of C & Northwestern, with my backup being Loyola. With a 3.6 GPA or so, what kind of GMAT should I shoot for? I think I am going to graduate a semester early from college, and then was thinking it would be a good time to get the first CFA level done, along with the GMAT. How much work do I need to put in to get a good GMAT score, that will allow me to have a good chance of getting into the MBA school that I want?

Anything above 700 should be fine. With MBA, you would need to focus on your work experience. Try to demonstrate taking initiative and your leadership skills.

I had a BS in ChemE and 7 years experience. i took a prep course (8 hours) and went through one of them books, taking all the practice tests (about 40 hours over 4 weeks) and I got a 680, and that was good enough for the school I went to. I not generally considered a good test taker - whatever that means.
