GMS Vs. Full Financial Aid Coverage

I was wondering, if one already has a full ride to a university, due to need based financial aid, would they still need the gates millenium scholarship? I mean in the end they'd still have a full ride. Also, do colleges let you keep GMS money and their financial aid money? If not is there really a difference between the two especially if your going to law or med school?

I know someone who was offered a full ride to a high ranked University because of its need based financial aid policy, and I know many high ranking schools offer a full ride if one needs it. They are planning on going to med school, so do they even need this scholarship?

I would imagine if a student gets a full ride with no loan or workstudy debt and is planning on going to med school, I think they would not really need the Gates. I could be wrong, so please check this out. Try calling 877-690-4677 (Gates office) and ask them this question. I do know that Gates does not pay for med school or law school.

Yes.

  1. Gates pays work study- you get ~1,000 a semester for not doing work study. Its for the hope that your “work” is to study and not get ajob.
  2. gates pays for books (a fee that a full ride does not via financial aid)
  3. Gates pays for insurance
and the big one, 4. Gates could end up paying for your grad school.
Also if you study abroad they give you a LOT of money (plus the school gives you money) so you cant go wrong with gates. The scholarship has a lot more benefits that you realize.

What type of insurance does gates cover?
