I’ve browsed through the page! How do you join? I’m very confused as to how that is supposed to get done! Honestly I can’t find anywhere to get in?
I can’t join as I’m a parent. I think you it’s a closed group so you have to send a request to the administrator. You have to have a Facebook account first. It would be a good way to meet a roommate if you are sure you want to attend. There’s also a GMU forum on reddit where you can ask current students questions.
Does anybody know if merit scholarships were given to mostly out of state students for right now?
My daughter, in state, was offered a small merit scholarship with her decision.
My OOS DS was admitted to the Honors College with Mason Excellence Award of $10,000 per year. We were happy to see this.
What are your stats?
Same as @txstella - OOS DS admitted to Honors College w/ same award. We were VERY happy, but at the same time, it is STILL expensive for OOS. We’re keeping fingers crossed for University Scholar.
Stats:
4.0 Homeschool
SAT CR/M: 740/740
Only 2 APs Junior year (2 more this year)
Dual Enrollment, specifically for Russian but other classes, too.
Debate
has anyone heard when they are releasing university scholar decisions?
@2016senior have you received a physical letter yet? I know my decision since its online but I haven’t gotten acceptance packet yet?
@college101yeah - I don’t think they mailed anything.
Just received an email invitation to the ‘University Scholars Selection Day’ in February.
Because I know the information is useful - the email specifies that forty students were selected as finalists, and that there are twenty spots available. Best of luck!
@tollbooth - Congratulations! And thank you for sharing. It is very helpful info.
A few questions: Would you mind sharing your stats? (Not just for me, but for future applicants) Also, did you receive a merit award with your acceptance letter?
Thanks and I wish you the best of luck!
Just messaged Mason admissions re: notifications of University Scholar finalists. Here was the reply (with my addition in parentheses):
Notification for selected Scholars students began going yesterday (Thursday) and should finish up tomorrow as the selection committee finalizes their initial selections. These are the students that will be invited to compete for the awards.
I did not receive any merit with my honors acceptance.
While I don’t feel comfortable sharing my stats (I am not a traditional applicant), I will share that I believe they look more at your entire story - if you’ve faced challenges and succeeded, put your education first at all steps along the way, done what you’re passionate about instead of filler activities - more than any test score or grade. Again, good luck to all applicants!
