Hi! I was recently admitted to GMU for Mechanical Engineering and JMU for General Engineering. Virginia Tech Engineering looks to be my top program, but in the event of my rejection, I want to have a decided backup school.
GMU
Positives:
Seems to be the better engineering program
More connections
Access to internships
Negatives:
15 mins away from home
College life is so-so because most people are commuter
Campus is pretty average
JMU
Positives:
Amazing campus
I got into the honors program
Better college life
2 hours from home
Negatives:
Can only get a degree in General Engineering
Let me know what your thoughts and suggestions are!
Rather than trying to parse these two, I suggest you be delighted that you have 2 super options in hand, and wait to see what happens with Tech, and do revisit days. When you have all the info then if you still need input, c’mon back.
As a Mechanical Engineer myself, I would have a hard time going to JMU if I wanted to be a ME. I believe there are a lot more opportunities in engineering at GMU. Since I am also originally from NOVA, I understand the commuter school rep that GMU has but they have made some great strides recently. Their last president made improvements and advanced it’s reputation. He was just hired to be the new president of Ga Tech.
