GMU vs. VT Computer Science

Hi. I am a Virginian student looking to go into CS. I’ve already been accepted to the GMU Honors College and think I’ll likely be accepted to VT as well. I’ve find a lot of research and VT is commonly listed over GMU but I know GMU also has great outreach and proximity to DC is huge. Does anyone have advice on what is the better choice? I can provide more info if necessary. Thanks in advance.

Either school should give you good opportunities in CS. GMU is close to DC and all the opportunities there. Lots of kids at VT also get internships in the DC area or end up working there after college (as well as other locations because lots of large national companies recruit at Virginia Tech. VT has post graduate surveys online you can look at. Some of their CS grads in recent years ended up at places like Accenture, Amazon, Microsoft, Capital One, IBM,etc. George Mason probably has similar info you could look at. The location and vibe of each school is of course very different. So, try to attend accepted student days to get a better sense of which might be best for you. Good luck!

From a west coast software company point of view, VT has more name recognition than GMU.
