Go into debt and drag my parents too or waste year waiting for public school acceptances to save $$?

However, the USC net price listed is on the high side of UC in-state list prices, and significantly higher than CSU in-state list prices (for resident students, not those living in the parents’ house).

Also, I did run a hypothetical through USC and UCLA net price calculators a while ago to compare their aid for a high-need California resident student; USC was more expensive by a few thousand dollars. Note also that USC uses CSS Profile, while UCs and CSUs use only FAFSA information (although UCs and CSUs calculate financial aid differently from FAFSA information).

UCR’s costs for living with parents include $16,500 in tuition, fees, and books. $8,300 of costs in room and board, transportation, and personal expenses are assumed to get a total of $24,800, but perhaps many parents willingly subsidize these costs (or do not notice these costs distributed in small bits around the household budget) when the student continues to live in the parents’ house.
