Say I go through all the motions of attempting to transfer 'up' from my college.

I talk with my professors and advisors, give them my reasons, discuss it with them, and get recs. Then my results come in, and I don't get in anywhere I really wanted to go and decide to stay put at my current institution.

Are my professors/advisors (assuming I continue to have classes/contact with them) going to... I don't know how to say this, look down on me considerably? I mean I'm sure their perspective will have changed, but am I going to be in a really bad place if I decide not to transfer after all? Will I be SOL as far as ever getting their respect back (and maybe even someday asking them for grad school recs)?

I feel like there are a few other places where I would be so much happier, but it's not like I don't enjoy my current school. I would just have so many opportunities and considerably more freedom with what I do during my UG years if I did transfer, and I feel that the other schools would challenge me more...

Anyone ever go through the transfer thing and not follow through with their acceptances for whatever reason? Any words of wisdom?
