Go to Haverford

I am currently a freshman at Haverford and would just like to put it out there for all you prospective students that I love it here. I am honestly rather embarrassed by the couple of students who have been frequenting this board just to dissuade you all from coming. I won't presume to know the situations of these people or others who may have problems with Haverford, but I will tell you all that most people I know love it here and love it most because of the people and the freedom we are allowed. Haverford is a place where the students truly run everything and, personally, I think it is an awesome thing. Given this, I take most issue with the argument that everyone at Haverford fits a "mold". The only thing everyone has in common here is that they are all genuinly nice, freindly, and intelligent people. Beyond that, this really is a place full of individuals.
For fear of blowing too much smoke up Haverford's ass, I'll stop there and just say that I am having the best time of my life and the feeling is shared by almost everyone I know. Again, just look at the transfer rate. Beyond that I would just like to apologize to all the kids who got in ED and have tried to share thier excitement about getting in on this board, only to be ***** on by on by people who have no right to represent the views of the community you will soon be apart of. You should be excited, Haverford is an awesome place for a million reasons I can't list here. Certainly there are things about it that need to be changed, but the best part about this school is that the student have the power to make those changes. Finally, anyone who has been reading these boards in an attempt to decide where they should go next year, I implore you to visit the school and never look at college confidential again.

I'd first like to apologize if my posts have embarrassed you or have made you uncomfortable but I started them at the peak of my frustration with Haverford, particularly its administration. A lot of the things that have happened to me have been isolated solely to me and are not reflective of the typical student experience. I thought I made that clear and in no way did I intend or claim to represent the views of the community as a whole. My initial reason for starting the thread was to provide a perspective that is not readily availible anywhere else (college guides, tours, etc.) of a worst case scenario so to speak.

I realize that my diction and comportment on these boards have been extremely negative and were largely influenced by monomanic emotion. My first semster was an egregious abberation and as such I felt that prospective students should be aware that these things can happen even on highly idealized campuses such as Haverford. A lot of my initial misgivings about Haverford have, however, since been assuaged.

I still support the whole sociological "mold" concept on the Haverford campus. It seems that a certain persona is definitely prevalent and others lacking in comparison to more cosmopolitan campuses such as Wesleyan or Vassar or even Bryn Mawr. While I agree that everyone certainly has diverse characteristics that make them highly individual, it seems both from a physical and psychological standpoint that many Haverford kids are by and large similar. I've definitely met other students whom I've really grown fond of, however there is a large contingent of those whom I genuinely don't like. Granted such feelings are going to be experienced at any campus, especially smaller, private schools, but the homogeneity of Haverford is a bit more overwhelming than the viewbook suggested (granted the small student body and campus compound this greatly).

Again, I apologize for my actions and hope that I have clarified my position. I don't feel that Haverford is a horrible place but I do feel that it has been horrible to me (again via solely personal tribulations). If any future students are reading this, I would like to make it clear that Haverford is certainly a wonderful place and an academic stalwart but it has its faults which, unfortuanely, have hit me in an exorbitant way.

Wow, it doesn't get more Haverfordian than this.

Thanks for the positive outlook! I've been reading the "Stay away" thread, and was becoming increasingly irritated with it, and I'm really glad to see that there are people who really love Haverford- I myself have several friends who are having the time of their lives, and I can't wait for my decision letter... if I get in, I really think I'll end up going.. I adore the school!

Mazzo's response to matt is truely a Haverfordian. If someone ask me " why Haverford? ", the first and the foremost thing I would say is: "go to <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=40041">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=40041</a>". I bet he/she will get an answer.
