Anybody having big going away parties?
Big vacation plans before the big day?

Be careful on "big" vacations. Last thing the kid needs is an injury or illness at this point...

Otherwise, have fun! :D

Going Away Parties

Anybody having big going away parties?
Big vacation plans before the big day?

I'm going to Michigan to work in the Upper Peninsula for the next month before I-day.

No vacation plans, but a week before son leaves we are having friends and family over for a barbeque. Red, white, and blue for all the decorations! ;)

I'm having a graduation party/bbq/going away party- basically just my friends, but also a few people from my school's staff. I tried inviting both my BGO and my USMA MALO but both were busy that day. I also invited my Congressman and the aide that helped me out primarily. Whether or not they show up is anyones guess lol.

I am having a big RED WHITE and BLUE BBQ Picnic for Lola too on June 10th. Cant wait :)

just enjoy your summer before you head off :)

I'll have something very small before my hub and younger son take off for Scout camp. This trip was in the works LONG before the appt. came down.

He grads on 6/13, g-parents stay until 6/18, hub and son leave on 6/21, and we'll leave 6/24. Not much time.

Spider so far has nixed a send-off party. The parent's club of North Texas is having a picnic and we are going. Bah.... I wanted to order blue and gold M & Ms and have cute decorations!

We are traveling to Annapolis early (June 21st) and doing the tourist thing with the family/gf around DC. Hoping to get to Gettysburg since we are all Civil War buffs. I was stationed in the area (Navy Annex, NMPC) once upon a time and I'd like to revisit some old haunts (Georgetown!).

We're having dinner at the Chart House the night before. They take reservations online, so we booked. Anyone care to join us, at least for some Mud pie and coffee? We'll be there at 7 p.m.

Also made Sunday brunch reservations at Carrol's Creek Cafe. I am all about the food! Love that http://www.opentable.com :)

S also nixed a specific send-off party. Maine Parent's Club is also having a picnic/Welcome Aboard party at one of the BGO's homes (our BGO, thankfully), and we'll be at that (on Father's Day, if I recall). Having a grad party this coming Sunday where much of the school population will graze through, and then a more intimate "family (local and from away)/very close friends" thing next Sunday (10th) after graduation for about an hour that is combo grad celebration/USNA send-off. S wanted to do a "final send-off" with just a few close friends of his, where they took a day and went to the beach/went to a movie/late night bowling, or something along that line. He'll miss the summer celebrations in town (Clamfest is the big hoopla), and he just wants a little taste of that with his closest buddies. No g.f., so we don't have to go that route.
We, too, are going in early, but only a day early. Have some errands to do on the Yard, and want to get a feel for the town, itself, so when he does finally get liberty, he knows where/what he might want to go/do. (Moot point until PPW and Academic Year, to be sure...)
S may take a run around the trails at USNA day/evening before. BGO recommended we take the tours on the Yard, as well. Rich with history.
Have fun at Gettysburg. We did the tour there about 3 years ago. "bought" a guide to take us around. Well worth it. They'll take you to the places where various states had their strongholds. We saw the rough hill where the Maine Infantry held the battle. And, places around town where cannonballs and musket balls went clean through sides of homes/barns. Museums there also well worth it. (armories, and gen'l info/battle scenes). Not naval, by any means, but awesome (the true meaning of the word...not that I think it was "fun/neat") to recount what it must have been like in battle.
North Texas! Girl... I did my early primary years in Pampa, then scooted off to Houston for 3-5th grade. Can still remember what Skellytown smelled like, and hear the lone screeching of an oil rig turning. San Jacinto monument and a tour of a sub in Galveston Bay got me personally interested in the Navy a Loooooong way back. Never signed up for it, myself, but guess the youngest S caught that fever somehow. Had lots of family friends that worked for NASA back in the heyday, as well. Good times, even with tornadoes and hurricanes!
Miss a good plate of ribs!

Hoo, ribs. We got 'em here. We're from the East originally (CT and upstate NY) and lived in CA for 18 years but there's nothing like Texas 'cue. MUst admit I'm looking forward to some East coast seafood, though!

Maine, wow. The 20th Maine and Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain. One of my heroes. Can't wait to see Little Round Top, Devil's Den, etc. A guide sounds like a great idea.

Sounds like y'all are going to be doing some celebrating! Well earned!

Spidermom,
Thanks for the tips on online reservations and the Chart House! After reading your post, we also made reservations there the night before I-day (but they're at 5PM due to availability).

Oh, we'll probably miss each other...dang. If you linger over dessert, we'll be the party of six...one nervous skinny white boy with cute short gf attached at the hip, a stunning teenaged sister with long dark hair, a cute chatty 8 year old little sister, cranky tall dad with a mustache (it will be a late dinner for him and he's cranky when hungry!) and me, the middle-aged, overweight school marm. Come over and say hi!

Funny how things come around in a circle. My husband and I used to frequent a Charthouse in Newport, RI when we first started going out during OCS. It holds special memories for us. Never dreamed back then we'd have a son going into the Navy some day.

Charthouse at Monterey, Cali and Savannah, GA. Love them both!! I think I will have to go to the one in Annapolis! is there anything better?

Ooh, I love the one in Monterey!

Hot brown bread, great salad, mud pie. I can get by without an entree even (but I don't!)

The North Texas Parent's Club send off party will feature USNA grad Clint Bruce, a former football player and SEAL who has a private security business now. He is highly entertaining. At the Xmas party, he cracked everybody up talking about how it is possible to surf in the hydromechanics lab. :) Looking forward to it.
