Pent up demand but also many people are not traveling internationally yet and are getting to know the US again. There are also limits on camping reservations, number of tickets sold to some venues, smaller seatings at restaurants and concerts.
Book dinner reservations now. Restaurants are full, already, and itās early for crowds.
HI is already having lots of issues with crowds, lack of rental cars and all that comes with increasing visitors.
Getting this back to the thread topic āgoing back to the officeā - (the thread was starting to meander off to travel non related to work!)
In breaking news at the university I work for, HR decided (with LOTS of prompting from our professional association) to offer some flex work options. A few steps to the process and not all will be approved. I was pleased to get mine approved yesterday - allows me to flex 1-2 days per week working from home if my schedule of job tasks allows. I appreciate the variety in the week and with pay raises not amounting to much this is a nice perk.
Today we had our first staff meeting (a small one, 5 people) since March 2020 in person. Well, we had one awkward one in a very large room with the small group masked in July. All meetings have been virtual otherwise.
Today we also have a group of incoming interns on our floor for orientation - most of us never even met in person last years interns.
Itās wonderful to have the activity in the office and see new faces. Actually SEE new faces! (they do put masks on immediately after leaving the conference room and leaving the floor as is required on our health care campus).
It felt awful being back in my office. I have been going in just on Monday mornings, to see 1 or 2 people. In august I had to move my furniture home and a NP moved his furniture in. I had a couch, loveseat, ottoman, so quite comfy. Not so now. The office manager scolded me for not taking peoples temperature or allowing a husband to sit in waiting room. Iāve only let people in who have been vaccinated, which is why my office was vacant for 9 months. I also spray before and after each person. Itās hard to,listen to a lecture on why Iām not clean/careful enough.
Morgan Stanley CEO: Get back to the office. By right after Labor Day. If you can go to restaurants in NYC, you can go the the office.
To Mr. Gorman: Look, buddy, lots of us are not going to restaurants inside either. Take it down a notch.
My office announced today that the building will be open starting on August 2 for anyone that wants to return to the office.
Going back is completely voluntary and folks can decide for themselves how often and for how long they want to be in the office. This policy will last until the end of the calendar year. In January we will go back to the old rules that require folks to be in the office at least 2 days out of the 2 week pay period.
So should they wait until everyone is comfortable eating in at restaurants?
In some states, restaurants have been open for dine-in service for over a year. My office was open on a voluntary basis in May. Of 2020.
I actually brought everyone back to the office in May 2020. We are a small department with most of us having our own offices where we can socially isolate. We wore masks when in common areas and held all meetings via Microsoft Teams, WebEx, Zoom, etc. Employees were allowed to flex their work location mostly due to children still doing remote learning. Only one employee was hesitant to return and actually ended up being the lone person the department who contracted COVID from a sick family member who visited her home.
Also, we work in healthcare, though not frontline, and were able to get vaccinated in December/January. As of a few weeks ago, masks are now optional for those who are vaccinated.
Hooray for your nice new perk of 1-2days/week flex option. Hope it works out nicely for you and your coworkers.
Our office will require people to go back in September. If you are not vaccinated ( must submit info to HR) you must wear a mask at all times except when eating. And you have to eat in a separate room from our regular space.
Staff at my small office are each going in 2 days a week. We are all vaccinated. But we have a new employee starting soon - I think I will just ask her if she is vaccinated (likely she is as most are in my area).
Iāve been to the office a few times, mostly to have lunch with some new colleagues and client meetings. My company is offering a weekly lunch budget to entice employees to come in. Few are biting. I plan to go in 2-3 times a week. Iām fairly certain the entire company will be permanently hybrid. Most of our employees are loving working remotely and have been extremely productive. Management is happy.
The Pacific Northwest is going through an unprecedented heat wave. Went back to the air conditioned workplace today to escape the heat. State and county COVID protocols are still in place, but we can remove masks at our workstations if we attest to being fully vaccinated.
It was nice to be around people and get out of the house for 9 or 10 hours. Working in the office is voluntary this summer, but I think Iāll come back again.
Are you my son? He did the same!
I really looked forward to going to the A/C office when I was very pregnant and getting out of my hot non-A/C apartment. Even HI is hot and humid in heat waves.
Amazon announced delaying return to office until January 2022.
