I'm really hoping to get in to hampshire. I was wondering if anyone colud tell me my chances..

I am a junior with a 3.8 GPA my SAT's are math 340 (yeah, its sad isn't it?) and verbal 750

I always go to brazil in the summer. While I am there I volunteer teaching english at a community center. Once I helped start construction for a day-care for lower-class families.

Your verbal score and GPA are really impressive!
You have a while so focus on improving your Math SATs--take classes or self-study or get extra help at school...however much you can raise it will help in terms of your competitiveness at schools. Do you generally have a hard time with math, or is it just the format of the tests? With such a high GPA you're clearly not failing math at school...

a 340? ***! take some time to work on your math instead of english and you have a decent chance at a good college. A 340 kills any chance pretty much. I got a 640 in math in 7th grade.

my Ds friend always did badly at math tests, so she was tested for a learning disabiity, and they found she had one

she studied and worked to bring her score up, but having that legimtimate diagnosis was something she put on her applications in the place that asked for additional information

you must have some math skills to hve a strong gpa, so, I also getting some SAT math books and a friend and just work

Princeton Review sometimes has free practice tests, (to try and get you to signup for the classes, but you don't have to) the the test environment is like the real one, so you can practice

Well I get good grades in my math classes most of the times I get a B. What happens is that my teachers are good and explain everything like 10 times if you need it. When I go to take the test I get nervous at the math part. In class its ok b/c the teacher can help me out more.

I think you need to bring up your math score up a bit. Can you afford a tutor?, or can you get someone in your class who is good at math to help you? with math 500 and your verbal score you can get into some good schools. Good luck.

I want to second citygirlsmom's suggestion that you get checked out for a learning difference. You are obviously a very intelligent person, and your math score is not consistent witht he rest of your profile. Also, it sounds as if the kind of help and repitition you need to learn your math is different from what you need in other areas. An evaluation might give you information that would help you develop strategies that would enable you to learn math more easily. Also, knowing that you had a learning difference would allow colleges to evaluate your math performance in a different light, which would probably be to your advantage.
