Hey guys, I’m currently working towards my Associates in Science so I can transfer to a university and earn my Bachelors. I’m working towards a degree to land me a job somewhere in IT, and I am not 100% sure that the path I’ve chosen is the correct one. When transferring my 2 year science degree, does that count towards some sort of IT degree at a university?
It should cover most, if not all, of your gen ed requirements. Then you’ll just be left with the courses for your major.
You need to work with a transfer advisor at your school. There are usually different sets of recommended courses depending on your intended four year degree.
you really have to talk with a counselor with that. it depends on the school you plan to transfer to, and what courses they require. some associate degrees won’t even cover all of the necessary general ed courses that a university may ask of you, some of them may. it depends on the degree program, ect.
if you’re from california and you want to transfer to a CSU, an associates degree for transfer would work for satisfying those transfer requirements. if you wan to go to a UC make sure your degree plan asks for IGETC or something and that covers the gen ed UC requirement, but that still doesn’t mean you’re qualified to transfer because some majors/schools will require the major preparatory courses to even consider you for transfer.
your school website (community college and prospective university) should have all the information you need to figure this out on your own. talk to your counselor either way.
Also, if you have a good GPA, join phi theta kappa because some schools give scholarships for PTK members who have their AS. For example
