Going from a 29 to a 34+ in one sitting

Is this feasible?

I got a 29 with no studying at all, when I was extremely rusty on my geometry and other math skills, giving me a 27 in math. I've only taken it once, back in April.

My score breakdown was:

E - 30
M - 27
R - 33
S - 27

I'm hoping to go to WUSTL, which superscores. I hear that the reading section appears to be the most difficult for most people, so that's one section down at least (if it was luck that I got that 33; I read all the time on my spare time, so maybe not).

I'm extremely adept in math, so I think with some touching up of my formulas and geometry I could raise that to a 33 to a 36 pretty easily.

For science, this one is a ballbuster for me. I hate this section. I do great in all advanced science classes, but this one is just so off the wall. Hopefully with some extensive studying I can beat this section.

English, I'm pretty good with grammar. I think with some studying I could raise it to a 33 to a 35-36 without too much trouble.

Of course I'm working off of assumptions here, so that's why I'm asking for some opinions. I'm planning on applying early decision with a Nov. 15 deadline, so I have two test dates I can make. I'm going to do a summer semester at WUSTL, so I won't have too much time to study for it (planning on not having any) in most of July until August 14. So I'm working around starting hardcore studying around August 15th and going from there.

Here's the books I'm planning on running through, in this order:

The Real ACT Prep Guide
Barron's ACT 2009
The Princeton Review Cracking the ACT (considering swapping this and Barron's)
The Princeton Review 1296 questions

Are there any other resources I am missing? I'm probably going to do a practice exam every 3 days or so, because I'll probably run out if I do one every day or every other day. I may be able to get some from my school, but I don't know about that.

Do you guys think I study those 4 books listed really rigorously I can raise my score that high in one-two sittings?

Thanks in advance.

I went from a 31 to a 35, so I guess it’s possible. Take a class and do lots of practice tests. Don’t be disappointed if you don’t go up much, however. Prep can only take you so far. I think my case was simply time management for reading and not doing stupid things on math.

I think you deff can do it. It all comes with practice. When i first took the ACT i scored a 27 but that was with no prior knowledge of what the test entailed. Now after practicing like crazy I was able to bring my score us to a 32!

Maybe. I went from a 24 to a 32. But if you don’t study in between, not going to happen.

Definitely gonna study my butt off inbetween.

Thanks guys. I’ll try it and see what I can pull off.

IF you look at the ACT report on 2008 test takers …that is on their website, only 9600 of the approximately 1.42 million that took the test that year scored 34 or higher.

Don’t be dissapointed if you can’t reach your goal though. 34 is a very large stretch. Better to go in small steps. Your score could possibly even drop – it happens.

Eh I won’t be depressed or anything over it, but I’m kind of needing at least a 33 to feel confident that I’ll get accepted ED.
