I’m hearing about the insane competitiveness of the computer science and engineering school as a whole. I am an admitted student for the Class of 2020 and I was wondering if I should look for an education elsewhere like at UMass Amherst, Northeastern or Univerisity of Oregon?
You are one of many UCSD applicants that have been accepted as Undeclared and want to switch into CS. From what has been posted so far, it can be done but will be based on your GPA for required courses. A poster @DoctorP has posted the required courses on several other posts, so if you think you can get a 3.8 GPA or higher, then go for it. I personally feel that you should go with any schools that have accepted you as a direct admit, especially if you are not willing to major in anything else but CS. If you are more flexible with your major, then it may be worth the risk.
Prior to applying, you need to pass four courses: CSE 8B or 11, CSE 12, CSE 15L, and CSE 20 or Math 15A. The odds of getting in vary from quarter to quarter; it’s difficult, but not impossible.
