<p>I live in the West Coast. During which breaks do people usually go home? I'm planning to return home for fall recess but not Thanksgiving since it's quite short. Dorms aren't closed during Thanksgiving, right?</p>

<p>What you’re planning is very common. Dorms stay open throughout the academic year, even over Christmas break.</p>

<p>I live in the South, so it was quite a distance for me to come home as well (not as far away as you, though). I did the same thing that you’re planning to do: I came home during Fall Break instead of Thanksgiving, and then I came home during Winter Break. I’m glad I did that last year since it gave me more time to spend at home (a full week vs. 3-4 days). However, I’m coming home during Thanksgiving this year instead of Fall Break because one of my classes is going on a trip over Fall Break.</p>
