Can anybody here let me know all that they know about the process of (hopefully) becoming an MT major?! Thanks!

My son just completed his sophomore year of high school. He is very interested in attending Northwestern and doing the musical theater certificate. If that is his interest, what does he need to major in since that audition doesn’t happen until the end of freshman year, voice or theater? Also if he does major in voice or theater and wants to do the MT certificate can he also major in something else in addition? He is very academically oriented and would like to pursue as much as he can. Thanks for anyone’s help.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, mikeysmomanne, I’ve been busy and haven’t visited CC in a while. To answer your questions, your son can major in either voice or theatre and audition into the MT program, but I believe the voice majors, which are in the Bienen School of Music, have a different process, and this may even be an audition program. The theatre major is non-audition. It is possible to double major at NU, even while in the MT program, and certainly possible to add a minor (or more than one).

I know this isn’t what the OP asked, but for others reading–dance majors can also audition for the MT certificate. :)
