Going into senior year of HS - should I get a laptop for college now?

I really want a macbook (not macbook pro), but is it the best time to buy right now? I know I can get a free ipod if I buy within the next like 2 days, but the overall price of the macbook might drop during the spring or around next summer when something else comes out. Thoughts?

You need to be a college student to get that promotion. I would wait till you go to college.

That promotion was available last year as well so chances are it’ll be around next year as well. You should wait. In any case, technology gets outdated pretty quickly nowadays. You might see something that you like now, but next year, something better might come along :)

I suggest buying a new laptop the summer before your freshman year of college. That way it will probably remain sufficiently up to date for 4 years of college. Most colleges offer good deals on computers and software for incoming students, through deals with suppliers and “academic” software offers. The companies are all trying to build up brand loyalty.

Also, a few colleges (such as Villanova) supply a new laptop as part of the tuition.

However, don’t wait until the day before college starts. You want to make sure all the kinks are worked out, all the needed software is downloaded and that you know all the quirks before you have any deadlines.

no, by the time you graduate a better laptop would be the same price as the ones you’re looking at now.

Also, that Apple promotion has run every summer since I bought my Mac over three years ago, so it’ll most likely be back next summer.

I agree that you should wait until the summer before you start college. Even then, I feel like my laptop is getting out of date after only three years so I can’t wait to graduate and buy a new one.
