My BU supplement is written and finished. I’m happy with everything. After much proof reading, and getting it edited by teachers I can say theres nothing I want to change.

The only problem is…it’s 570 words. Will I get the ax for going over the word limit or is this something I can get away with? Be honest (although I doubt I have to say this). And I would appreciate very much if current BU students can comment.

Happy Holidays to everyone and best wishes to fellow BU applicants.

Thanks for your wishes.

No it won’t be any worry for you if it is only a 70 word excess…You should have worried if it had a extra 0 on the right side of the value. lol. It’s okay. Enjoy your holidays!. goodluck.

Nope, what the person above me said. I emailed the admissions person and asked when mine went over by 30 words, and he said that it’s fine, as long as it’s not much more than that. Clearly, if you’re getting close to 600, that’s a no-no since it’s 500 to begin with. Try to tow the line as closely as you can, but don’t worry too much. I’d say 550 should do it.

Thanks for your wishes here too, good luck to you and hopefully I’ll see you in Boston!

Thanks guys. Does anyone else have anything to say? BU students?

haha my common application essay (not bu supplement)

is 1043 words

but then again, the common app doesnt specify a strict word limit as thte BU does
so who knows?

It might help to take a look at this video at the [Boston University](http://www.bu.edu) website that they prepared. In the video, they say that people really should stay close to the recommended length. Hopefully this video could help you with your essay :)

[Write an Essay that Stands Out | Boston University Admissions](http://www.bu.edu/admissions/apply/how-to-write-an-essay-that-gets-noticed/?utm_source=homepage&utm_medium=homeslide&utm_content=kelly&utm_campaign=video)

If it’s 570, this is what I would do. I’d say to myself, what is it that I’m trying to get across to the admissions officers with my essay? Then with your answer, read through your paper and take out anything that you think does not directly link to your purpose. Kinda like having a thesis statement in English where anything that doesn’t relate to it is irrelevant :)

Hope this helped! Good luck :):)
